The easy answer is to read the lease that you signed. You did keep a copy of it, right?
Typically, you renew before it expires, but I have seen some leases that automatically renew for the original period if you do not timely tender notice that you are moving out. |

Probably one or two days. OR if you made no plans to renew, the manager probably knew that you would not renew and perhaps found someone else so it is a bit risky in some cases. If your lease expires, you may not have a chance to renew if you had not made plans for doing so |

Read the lease. There is likely a provision indicating that you must give 30 days notice if you are NOT going to renew it. Even if there is such a provision, your state's law may have requirements for such provisions. If the landlord missed one, your lease renewal may not be enforceable. |

Normally the lease is written up so that you have to give the management notice 30 days in advance if you want to terminate the lease. If it is not terminated; it is automatically extended for another year. So, in answer to your question, if it has expired without you giving written notice, you have already renewed it!! |

Before it expires is the best time. After expiry it converts to month-to-month.....which means you can be asked to move with 30 days notice.

Definately check your lease agreement. We REQUIRE a written 30 day notice of intent to vacate. And, if a lease is not renewed, the term automatically renews on a month to month basis at an increased monthly rental amount.
The lease was created for both resident and property manager.
When all else fails, go to the management office or contact your landlord for a copy of the agreement. TALK to them about your plans and find out what should take place. Lease renewals happen before the lease expires. |
