I want to move out of the city but am not sure on how much notice you have to give the landlord.

Check your lease if you have one. The general rule of thumb is 30 days notice.

It's usually 30 days. Check your rental agreement.

Also it's a good idea to talk with your landlord. Sometimes they will be flexible.

30 days!

HJ
30 days unless your lease says otherwise.

hargonagain
It depends on your lease, but generally a 30 day notice is required, unless you are still in the lease period.

Lifesnadir
If you have no yearly lease and are on a month to month tenancy, typically you need to give a 30-day notice. You *can* give less, but you are likely to be penalized.

Some landlords are willing to work with good tenants. If you absolutely must leave sooner than 30 days, then explain your GOOD reasons and ASK for leniency on the amount of time. BUT ask for any agreements to be put in writing to protect yourself and the landlord.

Yes, it is usually one month. It is the standard but you may have a relationship or agreement that allows for a different period of time. Otherwise, the landlord may prorate you for anything over/under a month into the next rental period (if you pay rent monthly). It is always wise to put it in writing, too.

It depends on your lease. Read it over. Or talk to your land lord, they usually appreciate as much time as possible.

beetem@sbcglobal.net
It should tell you in your lease agreement, but most require at least a 30-60 day notice.

Jim B
need to check your lease agreement.

You are suppose to give them a 30day notice when you plan to vacate. Usually when I move, they know way before 30days because the new place insist on a reference from where I currently reside.
