LauraJay | How much would i have to earn to be renting a house for £600 a month? |
I've found a nice house to rent for £600 a month with my boyfriend. The agency it's with needs proof of income for renters. How much do you think our combined income would have to be a month for them to accept our application? |
|

Probably double that at least. |

A comfortable range is 25% of your income spent on rent and 36% of your income spent on all bills including rent. |

it depends on what your other bills are. Do the math, figure out if you can afford it. |

The rule of thumb used to be that your income should be between two and three times the rental, but some agencies have their own criteria. In this day and age, some argue that income hasn't kept pace with rental charges and so plump for two times whereas some see that a smaller margin of disposable income means that there's a greater likelihood of defaulting.
It's very much down to the policy of the agency. Why not call them without giving your real name and ask them what their policy is on income to rent ratio and pre-empt their decision? |

they want a combined income of at least double the rent price. some require more than double but at least that. |

depends how much you think you need to live on and if that includes bills or how much your other outgoings are. personally i would have thought that you need to earn at least £12,000 each.
good luck! |

I once rented an apartment for $600 a month, I was earning about $1400 a month after taxes at the time.
So a bit more than double the rental amount should be enough. |

If it's leaders - then its £18000. If not, just ask them!! |

its not what you earn (to a degree), its you're credit rating that will decide whether or not you get the lease. if you earn 30k + (between you) you should be ok with bills and stuff on top but it also depends on you're outgoings. dont forget the council tax, water rates, gas and electric, cost of food, cost of running a car or two if you have them, loans, phone and internet bills if you are having it, mobile phone bills ect. you need to take all this into consideration then decide how much you can afford, then hope you pass the credit scoring. |
