How old were you when you bought your first house?
How much of a down payment did you have??

I was 27 with very little down payment. We put down $2K and it was a FHA loan. We purchased the home for $140K in 1991 and sold it for $460K in 2005.

We were 29 when we bought our first house. I think we had about a 10 percent downpayment.

Once I was divorced, I bought MY first house at age 41 or 42 and had about a 15 percent downpayment. Over the last 4 years, I've paid extra on my principle and managed to knock at least 18 months of payments off the end of my loan.

26. We put $10,000 down ($5,000 each, my fiance and I). The house doubled in value in less than ten years. Of course, we had to put some money into repairs, etc., over the years. Then we sold it and bought a better house in a better neighborhood.

My husband and i were in our early 20's and we paid 0 down and financed all of it . We then turned around about 4yrs later and had to sell so we could transfer with work to another state, it was a real bummer. Just make sure your gonna stay where you are before you buy.

I was 44, and we went FHA, so we just had to put a few hundred dollars down.

We were able to refinance a couple of times in the first three or four years, and we went from a 6.5% variable rate FHA loan to a 5% fixed rate commercial bank loan. We were able to do that because our house appreciated to the point where we could say we had more than 20% equity in it (and we had paid a few thousand off our mortgage, as well). Once we had 20% equity, we were able to drop the $20/mo. that we were required to pay for private mortgage insurance. We bought a very modest 60 year old 2 bedroom/1 bathroom house, and we were thrilled to get out of apartment living. We didn't initially see a lot of financial advantage to owning over renting, but after a few years, we really could see it. I think it takes a few years for the benefits to really build.

Be sure to check out FHA!

I was 18 yrs old and I came up with 20% down.
