this is a family owned business and they are sending me the paperwork and pictures of the property through the mail. I'm thinking I'll have an attorney look at them first.

Extremely unsafe! I havent used ebay since I was scammed out of $800! Ebay is full of conartists, scams and deception. You should never buy real estate sight unseen and if you are going to only go through licenced real estate agents 1 in your area and another in the properties area so you are covered fully. Buying real estate requires contracts being signed by both parties, building and land inspection and a settlement period with legal fees. Be careful!

Buying something like land should not be done on Ebay. The shipping charges will eat you up.

It's not unsafe, but it'd be idiotic to buy something that is such an investment (I'm assuming the land won't be cheap, at least a thousand or more) without even seeing what it looks like in person?

Call the seller, ask questions etc. Does th land have utilities does it have access roads ? What is the rating of the seller.
Can't you go and see the land before you bid ?
Don't buy blindly unless you have lots of money. In that case I have the London Bridge that I will sell you cheap !!!

Well I know someone who tried that and people thought that it would be perfect and wanted to build a house they come from Canada and found that it was a actual piece of swamp.Get details before purchasing...lol

Positively the stupidest idea I've ever heard, and it's not the part about not seeing it that's stupid.

Forget it. Most likely a scam. Real estate transactions are not done that way.
