How should we split this rent?
Rent for our 6 person, 4 bedroom apartment is $2950 per month.

How should we split the rent per person?

Normally it would be a simple even split 6 ways, but our complication lies in the fact that we have 4 bedrooms and 6 people. This means that 2 bedrooms (4 people) are sharing their bedroom with a roommate, and 2 people have single bedrooms to themselves. All bedrooms are the same size.

What should the roommates of a double bedroom pay?
What should the roommates of a single bedroom pay?

How about you split it 4 ways. So that it's $737.50 each for the four bedrooms. Then for two of the bedrooms split that in half so that you get $368.75 for four people.

So here's the breakdown in case you didn't get that:
$737.50 Single bedroom
$737.50 Single bedroom
$368.75 Double bedroom
$368.75 Double bedroom
$368.75 Double bedroom
$368.75 Double bedroom

=$2950.

Yeah, I agree with Answerer number 1. It's a no brainer: The people who have the benefit of a single room pay double.

I always say this calls for a dual formula.

Divide the rent in half. 1475 divide by 6 people = 246
Divide the other half by 4 bedrooms = 369

So the people doubled-up would each pay 185+246=431
The singles would pay 369+246=605

Divide the utilitoes by 6.

Split the rent into 8 equal parts. four people will pay a single share, and two people with the single rooms will pay a double share.

I personnally think that yaw should just, split the rent amongst 3 of yaw. and based on how you split the rent with just three of yaw then break it down. Do'nt try to split it 6 ways split it 3 ways of 2.

Single bedroom roommates should pay : $737.50
Double bedroom roommates should pay : $368.75
I just divided the rent by 4, so the doube bedroom roommates each pay half of the amount for each room and the single bedroom roommates eac pay the full amount of a room!

CrazyGuy
it would be about 492$ for rent each.

i think to have a single bedroom you should have to be paying 600$
so two people paying 600$

and 4 people paying with the double bedroom paying 438$

mathpro
divide 2950/6 and switch the people that sleep by themselves
so each person gets a time to sleep by themselves
491.67 each person

trichpat
the roommates in the double bedroom should pay $368.75 while the ones in the single bedroom pays $ 737.50 , since each bedroom costs
$737.50 the 4 people sharing the 2 bedrooms are entitled to have the bill split to 4.
