My wife (a real estate broker) has worked on a deal very hard and she lost it today. She is in very dipressed mood. I don't know if words like "...you can make other deals next time..." going to make her feel better or worse. For anyone out there who had similar experience as my wife had, can you tell me what words would make you feel better when that happened? |

Listen take your wife to get a pedicure. Now this may sound odd but get one yourself. I was a little leery myself but it's great. Not only will she love you for it but you get a foot massage yourself. Then after that take her out to eat. You will make her feel like a million dollars. It will give her the gas to make the next deal |

She must be a new agent. This job is filled with lost deals, and you cant dwell on them. I made myself a rule along time ago. For every deal i lose (for what ever reason) I will go out and make 2 more happen. This has worked out ell for me, I feel a lost deal is a blessing every now and then, It keeps me in check, and forces me to go out and work harder.
I hate to say it but if she is this upset, she may want to find a different career. I know when you are waiting on that one deal it sucks when it falls through, but if she can get to a point where she has 3-4-5 pending at one time, she will not care if the deal falls apart, she will know she has others. This is a brutal business, not as easy as everyone thinks. i wish her the best of luck

Try "I love you and I'm so proud of you, you worked so hard . . . etc." She may want to dissect the deal to see how she could have run it better. If she does, look for reasons that it was not her fault and it went south in spite of her best efforts. Give her a big hug, hold her tight, let her cry if she's inclined. Be a safe place for her. I would love you for that.

Sorry to say... it's all part of the job. I am in sales, and if I got depressed over every sale I lost, I would have jumped off a bridge by now. However... My wife WAS also in sales, and she was the same way. I had to reminder her not to wear her heart on her sleave, and the bottom line is... It is Business... and there is no crying in business. The sooner she relizes that, the sooner she can move on, and get that next sale.. if she can not, then she might be in the wrong business, sales is not for everyone. |

Do what most men sould do...Give her your wallet to go shopping...When she gets back it will be empty..Smile and say..If you dwell on this any longer,you might mis out on another deal..and leave it at that.. |

Just be there for her. Listen to her. If she cries, hug her and let her cry. Take her out on the weekend for a ride, just the two of you. The important thing here is that you be there and support her. Sometimes words just dont need to be said. |

It's a loss; she's going to grieve. You can't change her feelings by comforting words...However, that doesn't mean you shouldn't say them.
I would stick with sympathetic words, validating her feelings. Like "I'm so sorry, honey.", "I know you were counting on that - that's gotta feel like a huge blow." (rather than "better luck next time")
You might also simply do nice things for her - cook her dinner. Write her a mushy note about why you love her. Stuff like that. |
