How to get a legal describition of your property free?
need to prove to the home onwer in front what is her property and what is mine

You already paid for it when you closed on your house, & should have a copy with your title ins or survey. If you misplaced it, then check with the town records where you pay your taxes, some of them even have access to them online with your lot block & section.

vrandolph62
there really is no way to get this free. the best way is to order a "fence survey" and that can be expensive. the other way would be to go to city hall, and ask the building department for a "field sheet" on the property in question, but that usually does cost about a dollar or two, and doesn't always include property lines. you could also go for the tax rolls and find out exactly what the longitude and latitude are of the property in question, but again, that will cost you. in short, there is no truly FREE way to gain this information.

A legal description probably wont prove that. However, if that's really what you want, just go pull out your deed. It's on there. If you dont have it, you can order a title report-- just tell the title company you are going to sell and that you'd like to use/reccomend them for the closing, and they'll probably do it free.

However, its unlikely you will be able to read that and actually figure out your property lines, as they can be complicated or very simple-- and simple can be like, "The North half of the northwest 1/4 of the southwest 1/4 of section 22".... and can YOU find that? Probably not.

But USUALLY a surveyor sets rebar into the ground, just below the surface, so if you're pretty certain you know where the corner is, get a metal detector andlook for the rebar.

Call any local "Title" company. Tell them what and why you need it . They have access to that info. It is public info and they can tell you where to get it if they won't help you for free.

Do you want a legal description or a survey? Legal description is easy. Go to your courthouse and pull the deed or check your files from when you bought it if you have them.

Sounds like what you need is a stake survey though. Can't get it free. A surveyor in your area can mark the property lines so that there will be no question but you will have to pay for it.

hello i had the same problem not to long ago i found out that all property is free to see at your local court house you only have to pay if you need copies of it. not sure where all others have to go but i went to public records and deeds at our courthouse. i got copies but they were hard to understand because they were so old the description of the property was hard to understand so i had to get it surveyed. spent about 800 but was worth it now the property is all marked no questions up in the air

fr_chuck
on our deeds. you can go to the court house, they will show you and give you a copy of the description of the property.

But it will only give you the legal discription, so if you need where the property line is excactly you will need to hire a surveryor to come out and flag your property line.

since it will be measured from some fixed point, you will not be able to find the exact line without that.

sunshine_today
Do you have a property line dispute? It should be in your paperwork from your closing, the legal description and a copy of the survey. The only way to settle a disputed property line is to have a survey--she might not believe the copy of the survey you have.

call the title company.

The city should be able to come out and show you where the boundaries are. Check City Hall for records.
