Foulkesy | How/who do i complain about an estate agent? |
|
|

And Why Not?
|
The Ombudsman for Estate Agents but it does not cover all estate agents and you have to go through the estate agents internal complaints procedure 1st. Write to the Estate Agents Complainst Department, state which branch/person you are complaining about, what your complaint is and what you seek in recompense. Tell them that you reuire reply in (say) 4 weeks. If there reply does not answer the complaint to your satisfaction, ask them for details of the next stage in the complaints procedure. Always keep copies of all correspondence sent and received; that will be needed by the Ombudsman if the complaint goes to him. |

That depends on what he's done. Most estate agents are members of at least one of the professional bodies. If you're concerned about unprofessional behaviour, complain to them. If you feel that they are trading unfairly or illegally, complain to the local authority trading standards department. If you've been sold an unsuitable insurance policy or financial product, complain to the Financial Ombudsman. |

In the first instance, complain to the estate agent. They should have procedures in place to deal with complaints.
If you're still not satisfied and they are a member of a professional body, complain to the body (the oea or the naea are the normal bodies an estate agent may be a member of) You can also complain to the office of fair trading or trading standards.
The first people you should complain to are the estate agents themselves, how would you like to find out someone had made a complaint about you without giving you the chance to put things right? |

Most of the above answers cover it. If they are not affiliated to any trade body or ombudsman write to the director/owner/area manager. First though do you have good grounds for a complaint? It is amazing what estate agents get blamed for. You could be wasting your time if its not a genuine case of professional negligence or a deliberate wrong. |
