you'll go broke so fast you'll end up moving back home. hope you have a nice savings cuz living on your own is expensive at your age. not trying to sound like a bi*ch but its the truth. |

I guess not legally, they can't keep you from moving out. Are there other things they can hold over you though? Do they own your car or pay for your medical insurance or anything like that? |

They can't make you live at home but I suggest you don't move out right when you turn 18. |

Who moves out while they're still in high school? Have fun paying for everything you need. You're guna miss your parents paying for your food, clothes, electricity, water, and everything else you're guna need. Plus your parents could stop paying for your medical insurance if they wanted, so you'd be completely screwed there, no medical insurance for you. Don't rush your childhood. |

In some states they can. If you're still in school they can. It's usually 19 and in school til you can make your own decisions like that. They'd have to challenge it in court though. By the time it got to a judge, you'd be out of school and almost 19. |

You may have a difficult time finding an apartment for four relatively young people. Apartment complexes are leary from a liability standpoint. The younger the tenants, the more damage they do to apartments.
Why are you getting a social security check? Is that going to stop when you turn 18? Your parents may not be able to stop you from moving out when you turn 18 but you should reconsider your proposed living arrangements. What happens if the others get mad at you and decide to move out? How are you going to pay rent then?
Good luck. |

You turn 18 and you can do whatever you want, but think about it. The fact that you are afraid of your parents stopping you makes me wonder if you should think this through. Usually (though I don't know your home situation) parents see trouble in situations where teenagers don't. If you don't want to talk to your parents about it, get a few different opinions about something like this. Since it's the first time you're doing this it would help to get advice from someone who has been there (preferably someone who has his/her head together). Good luck |

No they can't prevent you from moving out but look into this better roommates rarely work out aand a three bedroom apt is expensive and you could get stuck with all the rent and utilities and what if you and your boyfriend break up and he and his sister move out? You have to think about these thing nd who will do the cleaning and what contributions will be made to the food budget? |

Have you completed an application for rental of this apartment? Will all of you be on the lease? Has the landlord done a credit and background check on all who will be on the lease? Surely, you realize that there will be more expenses than just the rent. If all of you are not on the lease, and sharing expenses, and one person moves out, how will you cover the additional expense? oh......... I could go on and on ....... I think you have much more to be concerned about than whether your parents can stop you. |

Since you'll be going to school stay at a dorm for a year or two. Then get a house. If you don't like that you should defenitly get a job that you can do but also go to school. I wouldn't rely on other people to pay the rent<most>. You shouldn't worry about rent, that is the easy thing to pay if you have money. More worry about food, clothes and just spending money. Most people do go broke when they are in college. You do mean college right? Your parents shouldn't keep you from moving out. If you live <parents home> close to the school there is no point in moving out. Why spend all that money when you can stay at your parents house for free. Even though I do understand the fact of wanting to move out. I would suggest moving in by your self and then in a year or so move in with other people. I HOPE I COULD HELP! |

You'll be a legal adult. You have nothing to worry about unless they can prove you mentally incapable of functioning in normal society before a court of law. |

Why will you be getting a social security check? And by the way, this column is filled daily with postings from young people who tried such living arrangements and found they didn't work. |
