Assuming the house has just been constructed, it should already be on. The construction crew used it while building the house.

One small additional point.

Do make sure you note the meter readings before leaving your house for the last time, and when arriving at the new place. This ensures that you sre only going to be charged for what you use, if the person leaving does not tell his supply company that he is moving out. Sure that would mean that you would find the power on when you arrived, but maybe with a large amount of consumption to be added to your first bill!

If no-one from the power company arrives to switch on the power or to take meter readings, write or phone them asap and tell them what readings you are calling your start point. Check your first bill to confirm that this is the figure they have used.

You need to call the electric company now and tell them you're moving to this new address and when. If you're serviced from the same company for both residences, it'll be a nice easy swap. If one company serves one area (your old address) and the other serves your new address, you'll need to cancel the old address as of a certain date, and then have the other company start you as of a certain date.

Just call the electric company and tell them the date you want the power on... no big!

you should check out www.moveme.com, its a great (and free) website which ensure when you move house everything is shut down and setup properly in the respective homes. Well worth a look!!!

Call all the utility companies, gas, electric, phone etc and tell them the date you're moving in.
4 weeks should be ample time for them to make sure all is connected for when you move in

*ifthatswhatyoureinto*
Call all of your utilitites, cable, etc.... in advance and have your set ups ready. You can do most of these over the phone if you have accounts and good credit.

Alot of time it is left on as a courtesy to the new tenant, however if it is left on you will have to get it put in your name asap--also if it it your first time having an account you more then likely will have to pay a deposit which will be credited back to you with in a yr

electric will be on, electricity doesnt just get cut off! its always running, where the disputes starts is when people say they moved in on different dates. Find out who the supplier is and advise them what day you will be moving in. Please tell them in advance as its stops any disputes later on. Whoever was in there before may try and claim that they arent responsible for any electricity used since they left and as it was empty they dont need to pay...they do! Only pay for anything used from the day you moved in. On the day you move in take a meter reading. If you are not sure how to ring your electricity company and they will talk you trhough it. It is important you do this as one it stops the start reading being estimated and 2 it stops you from paying for more than you have used. They will do the rest e.g.create a new account for you using the meter reading provided.

Almost forgot if its a prepayment meter (pay as you go) you will still need to ring up the company and request a new card/key. you wont get any electricity until you have the key but they will be able to get somone out to put some emergency credit on the meter until you get your key. Do not use someone elses card/key. One the payments wont go to your account it will go to theirs so youll be paying for their electricity and not yours and 2 if they have a debt set on the meter youll be paying their debt! A new key wipes any settings on the meter

Assuming you will be using the same electric company, call them now, and ask them to turn your service off at your current residence the day after you move out, and turn the service on at your new residence the day before you move in. If not the same company, you will do the same thing, only in two different phone calls. And keep the numbers handy during your move.

You need to contact the company supplying electricity to your house soon, open up an account with them, tell them the date that you want electricity available in your house....that's all there is to it. They may want a deposit if you are a new customer, or they may only require a reference from some other utility company you have had dealings with. Your house's present owners, either contractors or former residents, will have their account with the company closed the same day, so you need to get your account set up and notify the company of your occupancy date ahead of time in order to avoid having the power shut off.
