I think that it is a great idea. Make sure the mints are presented in a pretty bowl. When I was selling my house, I always had a fresh floral arrangement on display, too. If you still have your furniture there. setup the dining room table with china, glasses, silverware, etc,. as if you are having guests for dinner. You want prospective buyers to feel welcome. |

be there baking cookies, the smell will cause them to remember YOUR house when they forget all the others. |

y mints ? some kinda sweet like chocolates or cookies would be better . if u really wnt mints u can place a bowl of mints as a choice between sweets and mints that would be better |

I wouldn't, you want to sell your house not make friends! I usually always have fresh flowers in my house anyways, and that is a good idea, but, all that stuff about baking is completely unnecessary. |

What can you lose?
However, the realtor may confiscate all. |

I recently bought a home and believe me, a mint will NOT aid in the sale of your home. People have certain expectations about the property that they cannot change because of candy |

I'm also selling my house. I dont think people will make an offer because you have a bowl of mints out for them, but what may help is having vases of fresh flowers in a room or 2.. also get rid of any unpleasant odors in your home, make sure the house is neat and clean, and remove some of the clutter. Good luck sweetie.. Its tough for home sellers right now. |

I sold my house 2 months ago.I left a plate of cookies in the kitchen with a note that said"Help yourselves"
I also kept a bouquet of fresh flowers on the living room coffee table.I think its a nice touch.Rember to put away your framed photos. That way your prospects can visulize themselves living there. |

bad idea there will be a family that comes over and their child or children will put them all in their pockets.unless you put the mints up when you see people have their kids with them. |

I am sure it won't do any harm to have a bowl of mints out. I don't think it will do much help either, but you never know, someone may associate the kindness of the mints being left out with the house, giving you extra "points". |

Don't go with the mints. The potential for mess as mentioned above is an issue as well as liability. Who knows if someone might choke on one and sue you. Burn an apple pie scented candle for 20 minutes before the showing, and play some low level contemporary music. This all should help. |

bad idea it will make the ppl looking to buy to think you are trying to treat them to help you sell your house. they will thank you are desperate to get out like something is wrong |

That's really nice of you, yes you should! Then again, they could take that as a weak point, as if you're semi-bribing them to buy the house... (but that's just me) |

Good idea! |

That sounds sweet. Don't put out anything else though or it will look like you're desperate to sell your house. |

People looking at your house shouldn't be taking anything away from the house. They will probably assume that the mints are not for them. |

That is a totally great idea, shows that you are a caring person, which means you cared for your house. |

I think it's a great idea! |

Don't...not necessary, and although a nice gesture, the nervous potential buyers want to see a clean, well-maintained home and will care not about whether mints are offered. It's kind of a weird feeling thing, actually! |

I saw a site online once, cant remember the name, it talked about how to do your house right to sell it, like have the garden right, put flowers on a table, stuff like that. Cant remeber if it said anything about leaving mints out though. |

Interesting idea. I'm not sure it would be a good idea though, since walking into a strangers house like that there is automatically a feeling of being careful what you touch and not take anything. Plus, if you're trying to encourage them to see the house as their own, putting mints in there they may not like could actually have a negative psychological effect. (Of course, by that logic, you could put a donation jar in it, and they might feel if it were their house, they'd be making money. :-)
Plus, with people trying to see the house as their own, I think the less impact or indication of the former owner in the house, the better.
It's a nice thought though. But I don't think I'd do it. |

Best thing to do is bake a batch of cookies,or fresh bread before you know they are going to show your house .it creates a homey feeling and buyers are influenced by the smell. The mints aren't a bad idea but they don't send pleasant scent memories thru out the house of mom, like the cookies or bread. You don't have to offer the cookies or bread just the smell is enough. |

You want your home to have a 'Homey' sort of feel.. not a business feel... leaving a bowl of mints, while sounding nice, would make it feel as though they were walking into a restaurant, or an office...
Bake cookies or bread... fill the house with a nice warm-feeling smell... you want them to feel that this place is THEIR home.... and feel comfortable.
Good luck! |
