I'm trying to find out about the property lines around my home?

If you own the home, you should have a survey in all your closing papers....if not call the closing company & they can fax it to you. Surveys have the property dimentions on it.

Amanda H
You'd need a survey. But unlike what some of the others said, its probably NOT in your closing docs. Surveys are rarely done anymore unless there's an issue or its undeveloped land.

If you live ona small lot (like a 1/4 acre or less) you probably have a general idea of where the line is. If you get a metal detector you can hunt for the rebar that a surveyor would have buried about 2-4" below the surface.

You can also check your title report ot see if any surveys are mentioned as on file, and hten request copies of them using the recording numbers. (request it through the county.)

Two ways...

one ..if all you want is a copy of survey map of your property..And you live in united states..Go to your county office...Ask for the real property office..There you will find all the plats of every piece of property in the county you live in..Ask for a copy...or

2..hire a surveyor..and re survey the lot..They will put up stakes to show your corners..

Brigit B
you need to get a parcel map of your home it will tell you what your frontage lines are and you can go measure from point A to B all the numbers on your parcel map ,what tract etc

flamingojohn
You should have a survey from your original purchase that outlines your property lines. It will normally be in your closing package from your original mortgage. You might also contact the title company that closed the loan as they should also have a copy of it.

double_klicks
Do you have your plot plan on hand... If not you can get it at your local records office, where your deed is filed.

Get a survey done.

You would have to go to the property office of the town in which you reside.

all recorded maps and docs in your county are public record. I would first contact a title company, Financial, Fidelity, First American, Old Republic and so on are some examples. You can also go to your county assessor but they might charge you a small fee. Title companies can give you any and all maps pertaining to your property and there should not be any costs. If you bought your property you should have a copy of those maps with your title insurance though. That should be all you need, your question was a little vague so I am not sure what you are looking for with your property lines if anything specific.

Survey SAYS! get a survey done.

Even if it is rental property, you can still get a survey done (or ask your landlord for a copy of the survey).

You will have to order a survey to find the exact lines, or find your Plat fo Survery (given to you at the time of closing if you own the home).

Have you contacted the county clerks office? More specifically the register of deeds?

Dixon
What about them?? there should be a metal stake at all four corners of your property marking the edge of your property...usually very hard to find unless you get someone to come find them, or use a metal detector...and you could always go to The Department of Building and Development who deals with zoning and all that.
