There are no laws that prevent the landlord from "voicing" his opinion about you. Name calling is not against the law.
If your making it difficult for the landlord to contact you, then he has every right to try and tract you down through family members.
Bottom line...pay your rent. |

I'm guessing that you haven't talked with the landlord, so he is trying to find out information. TALK WITH HIM.
PS. You are not just 2 weeks behind. Based on your other posts you have been late and he has actually told you to get out. Stop playing the victim and either get out or pay up. |

While it's not very professional, it's also not illegal. You need to simply have a talk with your landlord relative to potential arrangements to make your rent payments. I suspect you have not communicated with him properly, or he would not be making these calls. |

YOU OWE your LL rent. He needs his rent and you are legally obligated to pay for the housing you are using. You have a legal agreement and have NOT honored it. I'd worry more about getting the rent paid than about my rights, because if you don't get it together, you'll be out on the street. And if you don't want judgments, don't post for millions of yahoos to see!
I'm not sure what being strictly your neighbor is supposed to mean. Your LL should NOT call you names, but generally that is NOT against the law, nor is it a violation of most leases. Calling your mother, ex-husband and boyfriend is not against the law, either. However not paying your rent is a violation of your lease and you can be held to account in court for the monies past due, and evicted. I'd probably not want to remain with such a LL, but with your rental history finding a new place won't be that easy. |

yup. you remedy is to sue in court for defamation or harassment or such but realistically you won't win as you are in default on your rental contract. i am surprised that you have not been evicted yet. you must be in a left leaning state or the landlord isn't all that sharp. here in nevada if you are late on the 5th eviction starts on the 6th. |

Did you communicate with the landlord on why you will be late on your rent? And yes that type of behavir is allowed especially if he hasn't heard from you. I had a tenant try to skip out on me during the night. I just happened to drive by the area when I saw the moving truck. I could have worked with them if they had let me know. |

While it is illegal for them to harass you, it is also illegal to not pay your rent.
If you tried to take them to court for the harassment then you are likely to get evicted for not paying the rent.

It has nothing to do with this person being your landlord, what the landlord is doing is just plain wrong. If you are behind on your rent, the landlord must serve you either a 3-day or 5-day notice to pay or quit depending upon what state you live in. Just because you are late on rent does not give the landlord the right to harassyou. You can file an injunction against hharassmentif the landlord keeps it up, however this does not mean you don't have to pay rent. What ever you do, pay your rent because if you don't the legal system will not be on your side. |

I don't think the landlord has the right to call other people and discuss your financial situation with them.
Take him to court, you have an expectation of privacy. The landlord running his mouth to you and getting into your personal life is not privacy, thats invasion of privacy. |
