ameryharrison | I am 62,and have about £53,000 from the sale of my present house.? |
I think in the area I want to live I will have to pay up to £100,000 for another one.I can get a mortgage ok,but as I am single, live alone, and have no-one to leave the house to,I do hate paying up to £240 a month, and leave it when I die. Is there a specialist mortgage that will allow me that amount,in return for me leaving the property to them when I die? This will,of course, include my own £53 I will have put into it.I am in good health, but who knows. answers specially appreciated with your contact details, from those in the trade.I plan to move to Scunthorpe,North Lincolnshire.DN15 area,UK |

you could buy a luxury big mobile home sited and ready to move into for about 40.000 then youd have money left to enjoy. lots of older folk do that. you also get a tight knit ready made little comunity to be part of. and when you get older its nice to have the security of folks around you. hope this helps. good luck to you. |

I think I'd look at renting, maybe from a housing association. Being over 60 you are officially 'vulnerable' and you might get a very decent retired persons' bungalow. Or maybe council. A lot of places seem to have a surplus of housing for older people at the moment. Of course you're healthy at the moment, but it would free up your capital which you're young and healthy enough to enjoy. |

There are shared ownership schemes available. I found some by doing a quick Yahoo search(for shared ownership). One example below. A financial adviser maybe able to help. |

Go into sheltered housing through your local council and use your capital to enjoy yourself.Take a world cruise, have lovely holidays, buy clothes and go to the beauty clinic once a week for a treat.I am your age but have COPD and a hiatus hernia,so life is not as good as it might have been, but I am volunteering at my local Age concern and have just sold my home to releasethe capital.(not as much as yours though). My daughter is in Australia so I will use some of it to go and visit her.If you have no relatives to leave your money and property to ,then do'nt buy a property, and spend your money on whatever makes you happy. If you wish to give to others, volunteers are always needed in all areas for all kinds of charities, and this makes you feel useful and is good for you too.I live in South Lincs and there is a good supply of housing available for the over 50's.Good luck with whatever you decide. |

Yes you will be able to. I think your best options would be with housing associations that will allow you rent to buy but accept your deposit as full amount of purchase or rent but keep a legal interest in it.
Otherwise its a case of renting and you wont get help with paying the rent because of the capital you have
Why not see what lenders have to offer anyway?....you may be required repay less than £240 a month
As an after thought....what about these companies that will buy the equity in your home? |

Why not leave the money to a charity? Finances companies have enough of their own! You could always go and see places you have always wanted as well. |
