I am being sued from a house I rented in May of '06, and was wondering if the Landlord can still come after me
For damages. It was a prom rental and 4 of the 9 occupants were 17. All nine signed the lease. We were taken to court and the judge found the contract to be invalid but she has now filed an appeal. I was wondering if we can be found gulity, seeing that not all of the renters were adults? And I would Also like to know the statue of limitations of these actions? ty in advance

yeah you can. the contract is void but if he can prove you were responsible for the damages you will still be forced to pay no matter how old you are. but some laws depend on the state you live in.

jmorritz
Those who were adults will be held responsible. If you did it, just own up to it. Isn't it about time you decided to grow up and be responsible?

.
If everyone that signed the agreement were minors, then you can go on your merry way because you can't be held responsible for anything that is signed as a minor. It is the landlord's fault for allowing you to sign a contract.

those of you who were 18 may be held laiable... or perhaps the 18yr olds and the parents of the 17 year olds will be held liable.

If you damaged the property then she will probably win... The statute of limitations probba;y hasnt run out or they wpuldnt have let her file the claim.... sorry

the landlord has right to appeal.....did the underage parties represent as 18 and able to enter in legally binding contract, if so, landlod has case. yes you can be found guilty....better hire attorney. If you damaged property it is only correct for you to pay ..... you are responsible, and dont say you did not know better, you were 17, even 12 year old know better. You were irresponsible and should have to pay.,

you signed a lease if he dont persue it he can report you2 the credit bureau and you wont be able2 get cars credit cards phones apartments houses loans till u pay it off

mscarriem
if minors signed the contract it is not a legal binding contract you must be 18 years old at the time the contract was signed, I would check google for statue of limitations for your state if I were you, pretty much sounds to me like the under aged signing the contract make it void

chicpower
Landlord can still sue but will likely try to receive full compensation from just the legal adults at this point.

if you were one of the minors you have no worries.

You haven't told us what you were being sued for so I can't tell you what the statute of limitations is. The judge probably found the contract void because some of the kids were underaged when they signed it...we need more details.

Spock (rhp)
where is this?

some state laws suggest this is legally possible, others say that any contract entered into by a minor is void forever.

try google ... example: "texas law on contract and minors"

Gina 7
She can try but most likely it will be dropped. Age doesn't matter because if the damage was done, someone would have to be responsible..

IT's OK. Don't worry, of course, it would be diff if all of you weren't minors, but it is OK. Chill, dude.!!
