I am buying a house on contract from a friend....In the near future, when I have the full down payment, I will get financing through a bank.
We have talked to several local people (attorney, title company) I'm still a bit confused as to what, if anything, does my friend need to get from his mortgage company?

The only thing the seller will need from his lender is the final payoff amount, but that won't be necessary until when you are ready to close on the sale

You guys should each get a real estate attourney to handle the transacton. It'll cost a few hundred bucks but well worth it considering your making such a large important purchase.
