I am in so much trouble!!!?
OMG!! I am a real estate agent and have lost the keys belonging to one of my clients. I am sick to my stomach over this! I think I accidentaly threw them away in the trash but I don't know for sure. Please tell me what to do. How can I tell them. I feel completely incompetent.

Lai L
Tell them! You already feel incompetent like you said, so be upfront and honest. You made a mistake! Offer to change the locks to all outside doors at your expense.

Don't make things worst by lying! You are in the referal business. The word gets out that you're incompetent and a liar...find a new job!!!

Honestly is the best policy!

SugarCube
Be honest and very up front. Hey, these things happen. HOWEVER, do your part and offer to change the locks (at your expense).

Good luck!

Zeltar
Tell your client of your error and that you feel like a complete fool. Then, INSIST on paying for the house to be re-keyed. Hire the locksmith, schedule the appointment, and be present while it's being done. Then, actually pay for it.

That will show that you're honest and willing to go the extra distance to make things right.

Cv R
Oh please - this is no big deal. Ask them for a copy or pay to have a locksmith change the keys.

If you are a "real" real estate agent, don't you have a lockbox for the key outside the house?

But just tell them, they are adult just like you, they will understand.

Be honest with your client and tell them that you lost the keys. Offer to pay to get the new set of keys made. Personally, I always have 2 sets of keys for every house I list. One for the lock box and one for me that stays in their file, in case I need to run by for some reason. (most of my clients are out of counrty, so they usually want me to stop by to check on things for them.)

Just be honest...
