I am moving into a new apartment July 31st and came to agreement that this would be okay. Apt managemis tryin
to change move in date to the 20th of july whis is total bs and will cost me an additional 400 dollars that I am not willing to spend. My rent is paid through the first at the place I live at now. I already gave them 300 dollars of the security deposit and I don't like how they are pushing me to move into this place. I have a doccument that says I will commence renting on the 30th . I want to know were I stand. Please help. Thanks community

You have a document saying you will move in the 30th, so whats the problem. Just call them up and say you will be moving in the 30th, and cannot move before that - good bye. I get calls from pushy salesmen all the time, I just say no thanks and then hang up as they are launching into their 2nd part of the sales call. They don't take it personally they know they are annoying.

tell them that you are going to move in on the 30th, that you have already paid at your current residence and you have a paper saying the 30th. Never let anyone bully you, especially apartment complex. Tell them you won't be ready till the 30th.

You have a written contract. If it were to be changed, a new agreement would have to be drawn up and signed by you. They cannot force you into moving in earlier than you agreed.

Whatever is on the document and as long as it's signed by both parties.

You signed a contract. It is called a lease. You and they are bound by the contract. Read your lease. They are pushing you to comply with the terms of the contract. Now you must fulfill the terms or forfeit your earnest money. You do not have to change the terms of the contract. Read what you signed. Most people do not read the lease.

Management is trying to have you move in earlier to avoid loosing money/rent on a vacant apartment. It's likely that the tenant who vacated the apartment has left earlier than originally thought. If you have a written agreement stating your move in date as of the 31st, and you are not willing to take possession earlier, they must honor it.
You may "counter offer" the following: Management gives you possession of the apartment by giving keys and signing proper documents on the 20th, however rent will not start for you until the 31st. In some situations, it is better for the apartment to show occupancy rather than standing vacant even if it means "writing-off" or offering a concession to do so.
Give it shot---it doesn't hurt to play hardball right back!

You're about to find out about bad management. They are trying to see just how stupid you are and what they can get away with. You will have more problems from them. A lease is a legally binding agreement. Once it is signed, it is binding for both parties. They cannot arbitrarily change anything in it nor can you. You just tell them that you would like to accommodate them but your plans have been made according to the lease that has already been signed. If they break the lease in any way or do not perform as expected, then you have recourse against them. Be very nice when they try to bully you but say no. And Jodie has a very good idea. You can always bargain with management and get it in writing. Always remember that leases are negotiable and it never hurts to respect managment enough to call them back and deal. I'd be very nice about it but stand my ground unless they make you an offer you can't refuse. . .

Tell him that you have a signed agreement and intend to stand by it. Let me tell you as someone who has dealt with some low life's as landlords that you need to keep an eye on this guy or whoever apartment management is because they are off to a bad start with you. Be careful here.

Years ago i busted my buns to clean up an apartment so I could get a reduction in my rent for moving out early. Well, the landlord took the reduction I got out of my security deposit saying my oven wasn't clean enough.

Bottom line: keep an eye on this landlord and enforce the agreement you have to move in on July 31st.

Artman
Just ignore them. You both signed a contract, and a contract it's law.

If they keep pushing just tell them "I f you don't like it then pay me the extra $400 I would have to spend OR just give me back my $300 ".

estielmo
You have a signed lease so unless they are willing to give you those 11 days for free I wouldn't return their calls.
