If he agrees, and it is in the contract. Normally that amount is added to the rent, not in place of the rent.

mike
Not at all man,,if you have contract with the landlord ,

Also for new property http://www.simple2rent.co.uk

Not unless it's in your rental contract, or the current owner agrees to it in writing.

If you are on a rent now buy later leasehold, then yes. This is something you need to set up via legal sources - usually your rent becomes more but a proportion of it is put towards your deposit right from the start of your tenancy.

reenzz
Only if you have a "rent to own" contract with the landlord...otherwise, absolutely no.

daeve930
That should have been specified in the lease if you wanted that and the landlord wanted to sell that way. You would write up a contract for Lease/Sale or Rent to Own depending on what they call it where you live. You agree to how much of the payment is rent and how much will be applied to the purchase of the house.

Unless you've agreed to this kind of arrangement, it's not likely the landlord will credit any of your rent payments to the purchase of the house, unless he is totally desperate to sell and there's no other option.

Re-read your original agreement. I doubt if you could do this without his consent and agreement which would have to be formalized.

maxmom56
Only if the landlord agrees - and why would he if you are paying market rental?
