I am one month behind on my rent and it is really hard for me to catch that up?
I have asked my landlord to take the money that I owe her out of my security deposit and I will still continue to pay her extra each month until I have it paid off, but she tells me that she cant do that…is there a reason why she can’t do that. Isn’t that partly what a security deposit is for?? If not how can I get 1600 dollars soon and I cant borrow it from any family? Any suggestions??

The security deposit is not meant to be used as a rental payments by the tenant. If you need money fast, I suggest you sell your stuff and/or get a roommate. Also, if you're not going to be able to catch up and stay current with your rent, you should think about getting out of this lease and getting a cheaper place that you can afford.

they wont use the deposit - it's just that - a deposit so when you move out they can use it specifically towards any possible damages or cleaning costs - get a roommate - fast! and or try to pay each months rent and half of the past due (see if landlord will wipe out any late fees for you) good luck

Yes there is, the security deposit is put in something of an escrow account, it gathers interest and is intended to cover any damages you to the property. It is for the most part a guarantee that the property is going to be left in good condition. The only time the security can be applied to back rent is upon the completion of your lease.

I would strongly recommend talking to you landlord about getting out of your lease early, assisting as much as you can in getting a renter in there who can pay.

Move into a place you can afford.

She can not remove the money from the security deposit because the money is to be held in escrow which means rightly she must account for it at all times. You may want to check with the United Way, if your area has a State Housing Program or County Human Resource office see if they can help or find a personal loan company that can offer you a small personal loan.

Can you borrow it from any 401K plan that you might belong to? How about a loan from your bank? Credit card advance? Don't do a payday loan because once you fall into their evil hands/outrageous fees, you'll be paying 3 times your rent to them. Can you ask your employer for an advance?

Security deposits are set aside and are not counted as income until the rentor leaves. They are like a separate bank account - being saved to cover the needed maintenance/repairs when a rentor is gone.

see if your state has a local helping ministries or dss will sometimes help they will usually pay the rent if you have a eviction notice or if the landlord will tell thenm you are close to being evicted. also if you have a car have you tried to get a title loan and if you can't get enough from the title loan see if the landlord will take what they gave you tell her you are trying your best things will most likely work out hope this helps and good luck

that is now what the security deposit is for. Its for any damages that the unit may have when you move out. Its better just to move out before you get an eviction on your record and then pay her off when you get the money to avoid it going to collections.

By law us landlords cannot touch security deposits or profit on the interest from them (like their is interest anymore). In fact if you renew your lease we must deduct what interest we make from the new lease. Also, the landlord can evict you if you are not paying. Paying something is better than paying nothing, but you are violating the terms of the contract by not paying. If you have a 401k borrow enough to cover your rent for a bit and don't overextend yourself.

The deposit is for damages after you are moved out.

Get a second job.
