Stay where it's free as long as you can and invest that money.

Otherwise, get a cheap place and save the rest.

I agree with the first answer. It's a mad house out there. I can imagine that you wish to get away from your parents and live on your own but I tell you, It's no fun to worry about the rent, taxes and utility bills. Roommates sound good to save money but wait until one skips out on you without paying and you lose your cell phone or something? Do you love peanut butter and Jelly ?

400 a week is good money, If you must make the move be sure to have at least 2000.00 in the bank and available for hard times. That money is NOT vacation money or couch money or go to dinner money. It's emergency money.

Good luck

At $400/week - you're not in good shape for the long-run. That comes out to around $20-21k/year...which is just barely above poverty. I suggest you don't move out and invest that money towards some education to increase your earnings potential.

However, if you are certain you want to move out anyway, look to rent a place at $320-500/month. Your rent costs should be about 1/5 to 1/3 of your monthly income.

depends where you live - make a budget - how much you spend on food, gas, car, rent, etc... and give yourself a buffer.

Then see what fits into your budget.

Start shopping for a place to stay and working on a budget of everything you have to spend on a monthly basis. Depending where you are, prices with tell you what comes next.

do you want a real world answer or just some thing to feel good with?
400$ gross a week is nothing
some places that will not even get you a broom closet to rent or even parking place.
never mind utilities. do you have transportation costs (loans- bus costs)?
outstanding debts? emergency funds (1000$ cash). 3- 6 mths earning saved up cause you WILL get layed off down sized or fired from a 400$ week job.
visit daveramsey.com to learn what you haven't been taught about your money and how to own it.
suggest you stay at the house , get a real trade or career so you can make more and better money.
read ' 48 days to work you love' then act on it.
stay a year or so then you will not become a boomrang kid.

$400.00 a week, you could move to hollywood or under a bridge. $1600.00 a month WOW.

In some areas of the country $400 a week is not much money, but in many southern states you are in the average income bracket. Many people provide quite adequately for their families and are home owners with good credit at your income level.

If you are in a southern state you may want to consider a multi family dwelling. If your credit scores are strong you may qualify for a duplex or triplex which would instantly generate more income for you.

Just food for thought. Apparently from the rude answers you cannot live on $1600 a month north of the mason dixon line.
