I am renting a house but never signed a lease agreement. Do I have to give my landlord notice when i move out?

You are on a month to month lease and have to notify him at the beginning of the month when you pay rent that its your last month. Just cause you didnt sign a years lease doesnt mean your not leasing the property. So you still have to follow the laws if you want your security deposit back.

Yes you do. State law usually mandates the notice period if there is no lease. Typically that is 30 days though it ranges from 15 to 60 in some states.

Notice must span one full rental period, so notice given anytime between now and Oct 31st would be effective as of December 1st. This assumes that your rent is due on the first.

When no signed lease is in place for a landlord/tenant then the state usually creates one for you. This is called a "month to month tenancy" or "tenant at will" and it protects both you and your landlord with state statutes. Most, if not all states require you to give some type of notice. This can range anywhere from two weeks to 60 days. You need to check your local landlord/tenant laws regarding notice required.

You need to send a letter stating this is your last month renting and as of (the date) you will no longer be living there. It's best to give 30 days notice and that way if you put down a deposit- you will get that money back.
Consider sending a letter which requires a delivery confirmation so you have proof that you sent the letter and it was received on so and so day.

That would be a good idea and then you could use them for a reference when you rent another or lease. It would be the right thing to do and the smartest..............x

Krissy
It is always good to give notice. They will then give a good reference. =)

deedee
you always have to give notice when moving, usually at least a month. i would do it in writing.

G-Bear
Depends. Someone had to sign an agreement. Are you sticking it to the landlord..or the person that did sign one. Check it out before you do anything like that.
