I am wanting to buy my council house can i buy it if i only work 16hours per week?

it doesn't matter how many hours you work, what matters is how much you earn! It is your annual income that is taken into account. Go and see a mortgage broker or your bank and see what amount you can borrow.

I think you have to work more hours than that if you want a mortgage. It all depends how much you earn. If you have lived in a council house for a while they give you a discount don't they? Here's a mortgage calculator to show you how much you can pay back a month.

http://money.aol.co.uk/mortgage-calculator/article/20040224072809990010

If you earn enough to live comfortably after paying a mortgage every month, then they will give you a mortgage. They often take how much your living expenses are every month. My partner and I struggled to get a £70,000 mortgae and he works full time, I work part time. We went to a mortgage advisor at Darlows and they gave us a broker who took tax credits and benefits (not that we have those) into consideration.

Here is a link for right to buy mortgages.
http://www.mortgages.tv/our-mortgages/right-to-buy.php?A=1&B=1&C=1013&D=B&E=buy+council+house

I know I cut and pasted but here's a sentence from the site.

APS Mortgages has put together a panel of lenders that are willing to offer finance to people with the Right to Buy their council home. With APS Mortgages:
Often no deposit is required because of the discount given by the local authority
You may be able to borrow MORE than the Right to Buy purchase price of the property for home improvements, debt consolidation, and more
APS can help people with a wide range of personal circumstances but our main focus is on helping people with credit problems and trouble proving their income.

You can buy it if you are on the dole as long as you have been a council tenant for 3 years and you can get a mortgage or pay cash for it

I couldn't afford my home if I only worked 16hrs a week, so I doubt you can!

i believe you can - but i think you have to meet certain criteria e.g. how long you been a tenant etc

goto citizen's advice bureau for some assistance

and if someone tells you NO - it's cos THEY and ONLY they don't want YOU to buy your own house

Yes if you earn £40 an hour. No if you earn £6 an hour!

What a silly question, you havent said how much you earn, how much your house is valued at etc etc
