I bidded on a house and now I cant afford it what do i do?
The other day I went to an auction and bidded 20000 over budget. The real estate person was really hassling me and I dont know why but I paid to much. I have not signed anything and I have not paid a deposit. The auction was 4 days ago. Can they force me to buy it?

Stop whinging. You are an adult and if you go to an auction and bid in excess of your means to pay the bill then you shouldn't be allowed out on your own.

You will be expected to pay a penalty for wasting a sales opportunity for the seller, and the commission of the auctioneer.

THEY SAID DONT BITE MORE THAN YOU CAN CHEW .

YOU ALREADY KNEW WHAT YOU WAS GETTING YOUR SELF INTO.

Talk to them and find out where you stand.

Expert Realtor
Yes they can. Auctions are considered legal contracts, and you can be sued for not purchasing. However, it is rare...that is why they usually get the information from the second highest bidder, so make them they offer so they don't have to re-auction the property.

Don't blame the Realtor for something YOU bid on.

Bottom line is this, Just put your hand up and tell the agent yoiu stuffed up and you are humbly sorry. It is not in their interests to force you to purchase or the owners interests. The market is OK at the moment and they will go back and make a deal with the second highest bidder, don't panic, but be careful next time.

normally when you go to an auction you have to make arrangements and sign to get a number if you had to get a number and you put your name down, you have committed yourself to buying what ever you bid on, you need to speak to the real estate and/or get legal advice, , I just cannot understand why you have spent the time asking on here when you should be seeking proffessional legal advice

depends on the laws of the state your in,

I don't know the laws in the U.S. but here if you bid you pay.
If you can't afford to complete they could claim the difference between what you bid and the market value + costs.
Your only let out would be "the real estate person was really hassling me" Why they are sales people but they shouldn't over hassle you. Also surprised they didn't get signature and deposit straight away. Best to is get proper legal advice now.

if you didn't sign anything don't worry about it unless they have access to your bank account info. just tell the real estate agent you chaned your mind and find out if you won or not you probably didn't win.
