There was no fire. What i was cooking just dried up and started smoking. The smoke was so bad i copuldnt see a thing but there was no damage to the apartment. Additional Details There was no fire. What i was cooking just dried up and started smoking. The smoke was so bad i copuldnt see a thing but there was no damage to the apartment.
I asked the firedepartment if there was a fee i had to pay. they said it was free of charge. I even offered my building manager to pay a fine for the disturbance but she said she still wanted to continue with proceedings.
There was no damage to the apartment just the burnt smell but will go away with time. |

You should definitely read your lease. In order to kick you out of your apartment, your landlord/ management company has to have legal grounds....period. They can't kick you out for any reason not stipulated in your lease agreement. Go take a look at it before you get too worried. |

I wouldn't worry about it. Talk to your land lord and see what she thinks. Be sure to let her know that it will never happen again. |

It depends on what you lease says and what type of person this landlord is.
I am a property manager for a large community, and many things come into play when attempting an eviction.
What type of building or community do you live in?
What type of lease do you have?
Does anyone know for a fact that it was you that set the alarm off? And if so can they prove it?
How are you about paying your rent and following rules in general?
Granted, some landlords have a bad rep and rightfully so.
However, an accident is an accident and anyone with an ounce of common sence would take that into consideration before throwing someone out of their dwelling place. |

Well I hope you didn't tell him or anybody in the building you fell asleep. If you didn't do any damage I can't see why he would evict you. I'm sure you signed a lease to get the apartment. Check the lease to see if there is anything that he would have grounds to evict you. Just tell him you were smoking some ribs. |

If there was smoke that bad there was damage, and if u can't fix the damage your landlord can evict u if they wanted to be an *** about it. Then again tenants are allowed a certain amount of "normal wear and tear". It might be a little difficult though, depends on what state you're in, check out your states website on housing laws. |

If there was no damage, they can't evict you for just setting off the alarm. |

It depends ENTIRELY on the terms of your rental agreement. But generally it doesn't take much for a landlord to evict. Look over your agreement and find out on what grounds you are being evicted to see if it is legal. But at the end of the day you probably don't want to stay when you're landlord is upset with you. |
