I had to damage a door because of a faulty lock, now is it mine or the landlord's responsibility to pay?
Hey guys, a strange thing happened. My landlord had fit in a new door, but it had problems with a lock, and I got locked in and could not get out. There was no one around to ask for help, and I was in a hurry, so I had to kick out the door! It looks like it needs to be replaced now :/ Whose responsibility is it to pay for it??
I am from UK.

You do. You damaged the door. "in a hurry" isn't an argument

If you had told the landlord about this, and he hadn't done anything about it, then he would have been at fault, and would be the one to pay for this. But as it stands, in this situation you should be the one to pay. He may tell you that he will, as this may have turned into a life threatening situation, but I think you are the one who will be responsible. Just make sure that when everything is finished that the door is tested and found safe and operable.

I would think that was a little rash to kick down the door, plus you left the door open to theft when you departed. I think you are responsible.

Yours. You could have made a phone call.

If you where on the inside, you could have removed the lock.
In the USA you would buy the door.

Erm i think ,its your responsibility, not sure. it might be the landlords as the lock may have been faulty.

I had a situation at my old flat, the kitchen door had a handle on it which had fallen off. i was cooking one day and went out of the kitchen and the door blew shut behind me. so i had to bust the door down. it was either a busted door or have the flat burn down! But the door handle was already off when we moved in, so there fore this was the landlords responsibility.

i guess in your case in might be 50/50 split.

Locked IN? Well you damaged the door, it is your responsibility to replace or repair it. Hope you never get locked in your car

Ed Atun
This is not clear in the law. You would be explaining your "options" to the judge. Was there a window that slides open? Was there a back door? Did you try to call the landlord?
If you had no options, you can not be made a prisoner in your own home and the landlord would pay for a new door.
