If you have not signed a lease yet, consider yourself fortunate.
Make a list of pros & cons as to why you don't want to rent this place now. Use your head as well as your heart.
Again if you have not signed a lease you should be well within your rights to back out if this is your ultimate decision.
Good luck! |

all because you are approved does't mean you have to move in. It is not illegal to back out. you are all set not to move in if you want. |

you are not legally bound, unless you have signed a rental agreement. If you have you should also check to see if there was a 3 day right of termination ( in case of such a situation ) |

As long as you haven't signed a lease you are not obligated to pay the rent or live there. But if you signed a lease along with filling out the application, you are obligated to pay the rent there for the time period specified in the lease. An application for tenancy alone though, does not obligate you to actually rent the apartment. |

You don't (and cannot) live there until you sign a lease. If you don't want to move, don't. |

You have not formed a contract. You are not oblieged to rent the place. |

How about calling the apartment management and finding out from the people who can answer you best? Of course, you will need to consider the things that others have mentioned:
1. Have you already signed a lease? (Personally, I don't see how you could do this until AFTER you were approved, but I don't know anything about your area.)
2. You may have had to remit an application fee. Kiss that fee bye-bye. Usually this is only around $25-$50, so you're not out that much.
If you have not signed a lease yet, then you just don't move. I'd give the complex a courtesy call to let them know. If you have signed a lease but not started moving in, you can call them and see if there is a release fee that you can remit to get yourself out of the contract. This MIGHT not be a large fee if you've not even been given a key. If you have the lease, read the fine print, and it will tell you what you need to know.
Bottom line: the lease is the legal contract binding you to the agreement. No lease, no bind. And if you have a question, always feel free to ask the management. That's what they are there for. |

If it was simply approved and you have not signed a lease or put down a deposit...then nothing can happen to you...just don' move in.
If you have signed a lease then have fun moving....it's like signing your soul over to the devil when you sign a lease. |

You singed the lease you now are legally responsible for that apartment. If you did then you have to break it and hope they don't sue you. If you didn't sign a lease then don't worry don't move. |
