You don't say if you're in work or not. If you're not working, you don't have to pay at all. If you are working, but the only adult living in the house, you can get 25% off council tax. |

Go to your local Citizens Advice Bureau. They should be able to help with your question. |

The answer to this is that the limits to be awarded housing benefit are generally less than those for council tax and many people can be awarded housing benefit but no council tax benefit. I assume that you have some earnings and are not on JSA or Income Support? But occasionally, councils do make errors so your appeal will not be in vain. I can only assume that you have higher earnings now or your personal circumstances have changed somehow? Ask for an explanation. |

This does sound abit strange. Try the Citizens Advice Bureau, they are a wealth of knowledge with things like this. |

Ask them to explain how they worked it out. |

Well I've just been in receipt of carer's allowance say a month ago now and I do claim income support and housing and full council tax benefit. I'm on £100 pound a week. You can find out and send a email to them to query it. You need to get there address. Put in to google the area name were you live and the name of the office that you are querying about. That's what I did and they replied straight a way. I waited several months for my forms to be processed. But they did give me all the money that was owed. It was back dated from the date that I required.
Good Luck. |

To be able to answer this question correctly it is necessary to see what your income is. My advice is continue with the appeal for the time being but check the detailed calculations sent to you when the award notice was sent. Are your household details right? Is your income correct?
It is perfectly possible and indeed very common that people get no Council Tax Benefit but some
Housing Benefit. The usual reason for this is that the weekly eligible charge for Council Tax is much lower than eligible weekly Housing Benefit. As your income increases above Income Support Levels, Benefit is withdrawn on a % basis (the rates are different for Housing Benenfit and Council Tax Benefit). It's then an arithmetic exercise with Council Tax Benefit being exhausted first.
Incidentally as a general rule you get full benefit if you are not working but there are a number of situations when your circumstances are such that you do not get full Housing/Council Tax Benefits |

If you are not working you will get 100% of the council tax paid for you.
Idiots who gave me thumbs down....you DO get 100% paid! As a single mother on income support, they pay 100% |

IF YOU ARE working the thresholds are different for each benefit I suspect you have started work since your last assessment and you will now be liable for council tax. |

So you pay your rent, then get it back. Perhaps pay your council tax with you rent money love.
I don't get sweet fanny adams for paying any of my bills. Welcome to the real world, nothing comes for free. |
