KIM K | I have had to drop my house from £210,000 to £190,000? |
due to the credit crunch/house slump, and now the reduced stamp duty, more and more sellers are having to reduce there homes. My house is a 4 bed, with conservatory.

Fair's fair. I have been working in relatively well paid jobs for the last ten years (since I graduated from university) and could never afford to get onto the property ladder. But it looks like I'll be able to do so soon with the house price correction that is happening now.
Note that that's all it is - a CORRECTION in prices - prices were over-inflated and the market accelerated far too quickly. It's all coming back into equilibrium now. |

It's really quite easy or at least for me, I live a frugal life and have worked hard for everything that my family and I have. I'm so sorry that you've had to reduce your property price, I guess though that times will improve.
Best wishes,
B :) |

I think there is more correction coming over the next 3 years.
How do people cope, not really comparable to the coping
that the starving of the World have to endure. |

How much did you buy your house for in the first place?
If less than £190,00 I don't see the problem, but if more then I can understand. |

They will cope very nicely, thank you, now that house prices are reducing to sensible levels. |

Why would the equity have anything to do with "coping"? You don't live off equity..... |

i sympathise with you...one of my daughter's bought her starter home for 97,500 & it was recently valued at 85,000....now her plans to move from a flat to a house are firmly on the back boiler...she is heartbroken!
i think it is a nightmare for many people...but things will get back to normal in a year or so - let's hope we can weather the storm! |

You are not alone.
I have had to reduce from the agents valuation of £215,000,
to £197000.
In with my sale, is ALL the furniture, new TV, and washing machine, plus an American style fridge freezer that cost £1680 to purchase. Why am I leaving a house with all this stuff in?
I want to emigrate, and I cant take it with me.
SO, a 3 bed detached, all inclusive of my lifetime labours---going for a song. |

I do think that every cloud has a silver lining. I suspect that house prices will now level out to a more sensible price and more people will be able to AFFORD them. It may mean that the profits on houses will be diminished and in some cases pushed into negative equity - but as has been proved historically - everything becomes a form of normality again - its just a case of holding out and holding on until such times as the turbulence subsides. Much is being done to cope with this at the present time. I should stay put if you can - even if only until the spring.
In the meantime someone should shoot the hedge funders who have borrowed the shares, sold them short on the basis of the spurious rumours put about by the same hedge funders and then sold at not just a vast, but a humongous profit - but jeopordising the banks in the process. How this is allowed to happen and they make millions and millions and the man on the street is losing his home and his business and everyone else is teetering on the edge - is completely beyond me. Lily livered governments I guess.
Hang on until the spring - thats my advice. |

This is not the right time to sell hang on until it all goes back to normal get your money you deserve |

I guess the answer is not to sell at the moment if you can avoid it. Negative equity is only really a problem if you sell your house. As long as you can cover the mortgage payments hang on in there until the prices begin to rise again. They will do in time, it just looks like it will take a few years for the market to recover.
