I'm presuming you mean a dropped curb, if so the price is about right. |

I take it you mean a Dropped Kerb do you? Get a builders estimate for the job and see how it compares to £880. Councils always charge an arm and a leg. |

I suppose you think you should get it for free and and other council tax payers cough up.Be careful what you do as you could be letting yourself in for trouble.Your talking about making an alteration to what is basically a public pathway. We live in a society that seems to be hell bent on litigation .Don't leave yourself open wide to it.On another note how much do you think you should pay for it? |

How totally unfair that you should have to pay for anything at all. Write to your MP immediately! |

We had the same issue when we moved house, we had wood in front of our drive to help with the curb but the council came and told us to move it away, when the council repaved our street they dropped our curb by mistake (they must have thought that ours was already like that) so we got it done for free. There are people who will do this for you for a smaller fee and as long as the council doesnt know then there really isnt any harm to it but you will probably have to pay either way. |

Are you questioning the cost or the fact you have to pay? |

Sounds about right.
I'd use the council because the pavement is their responsibility. If you use a private contractor and the council don't think it's up to scratch then you'll have to bring it up to the standard they say.... And they will check as you have to get their permission before doing it. |

as its part of the highway a private contractor cannot do the job for you this has to be done by the council if you employ some one to do it you will be legally liable for any accidents you would have to take out public liability insurance for at least 31mill and can be fined for damaging the highway having worked for a local council then a few contractors this price seems very cheap and any legal cover is their responsability |

Get it done for cash, you will probaby only pay 400-500, if the highways say anything it's not your fault if it happened overnight, you never saw anything, or heard anything ........ |

There's also the environmental issue to think about. If a lot of front gardens get concreted over in an area it destroys plant habitats for birds, butterflies etc, and it can also increase the risk of flooding. Our local council is trying to discourage crossovers now. |

Improves the value by much more than that. Off street par kings worth its weight in gold. |

Do you expect it for free?
A dropped kerb is not an essential, council maintenance will cover things like double glazing, heating, bathrooms, etc., but you will (and should) have to stump up for that. |

sounds fair. 'dropcurps' are extremely rare nowadays
But you could just put a couple of planks of wood in the road next to the 'curp', it will do the trick just fine |
