I live in the state of GA my landlord opened my mail and it was financial matters. I'm sure that's not legal?
She claims it was because she thought it was her daughter's mail but their names are not even remotely similar to mine. Then when I confronted her she mockingly told to "call your lawyer... ha ha! Previously I found twice in my home and she has also had her daughter's friends "accidently" open the door to my home. I put it writing about a month ago that no one should enter my premises.

Tampering with mail is a FEDERAL offence and taken very seriously. You can have the FBI called in if you so desire to investigate. Talk to your local postmaster and find out a way to resolve that matter. Legally she isnt allowed to open her daughers mail without her daughters permision either. Your landlord is only legally allowed to enter your rental space for 2 reasons. The first is resonable expectation of emergency (fire, illness, etc.) and the second is to show the apartment to prospective tenets but only after notifing the current occupent. Unfortunately all you can do is file a complaint with the local police as they most likely wont do anything about the trespassing since it is a fuzzy issue with police departments (some leases allow for more access than the law allows). If you are irreprably damaged from these incidences then you should contact a lawyer with the police reports in hand. You can most likely sue for invation of privacy and breaking the rental contract. Maybe even for mental anguish. It is obvious that there is no accident there but you are within your rights to change the locks on the doors and give the landlord ONE key. Any future incidences will be on purpose and the landlords sole responsibility. You might want to file a police report based on the financial letter that she stole from you... I would be worried about identity theft. Lastly, you should concider moving to a better location if its within your means. This is obviously a bad landlord and appears to be looking to get you out, maybe to move in their daughters friends etc... Best way to resolve this is to get away. Good Luck.

it is a fedaeral offense go see or call your postmaster and file a complaint she will be sorry she ever laughed at you

You need to move.....also you need to document all she is doing because if I were you I would sue her. That is a total invasion of privacy!!

File a complaint with the police. Breaking and Entering is reason enough. Tampering with mail, I believe, is a Federal Offense. Talk to the Post Master of your Post Office about it.

I would suggest to MOVE .. she doesn't sound like she is a trustworthy person to rent from.

It is a federal offense to open someone elses mail. Turn her in and she will go to jail.

You don't need to put it in writing, it's already illegal. Call your city or county offices and ask them who you contact to lodge an unfair housing practice....or call a lawyer.

Thats a Federal Offense. I doesnt matter what state you live in...she can go to jail for tampering with mail. I would move but make sure you report her first and maybe file a report for breaking and entering. Then I would let your neighbors know to keep an eye out for her. Let them know exactly what shes doing cuase maybe someone else will step forward and strengthen your case.

Report to cyberpolice through expert lawyer on cyber-offenses (in case your statement is right, and if you have the requisite evidence which your expert lawyer should be able to decide).

Lynnsie
1) Move (if you can)
2) Opening someone else's mail is a Federal Offense - Talk to your Postmaster General.
3) Move!

ftwizz
it is federal felony to knowingly open and read someone else's mail.

1) Report this to your postmaster, let him know you want file a complaint and press charges.
2) Report the entries to your police, ask about a TRO.
3) Change the locks on your door, keep hers for when you move out.
4)Find out if the is a renters rights board that mediates these problems in your state, many do but all. A call to property management companies in your are should point you in the right direction.
5) Find new living quarters and move, letting your neighbors know why you are moving, they may have had similar problems and will be willing to write a letter of recommendation for your new landlord. (important if you want a nice place here). Hopefully you video taped the condition before you moved in, tape what it looks like when you are ready to move out. That will help get your security deposit back if you have to take her to small claims court.

Report her to the Postmaster at your local post office, it is a federal offense to open someone else's mail. Along with reporting her for fair housing violations you could also report her to your local Better Business Bureau and possibly your local chamber of commerce. I'd look for a different place to live also. If you really want to spend the extra money you could also look into a lawsuit.

dear friend,

opening another person's mail be it ur own blood relative is also considered bad manners. anyways, i hope the site/s given below will be of some help to you.

Hiring a lawyer for minor legal problems can be expensive, but there are websites like LawGuru, FindLaw and other places where you can get free legal advice. I found this website useful - http://www.uelp.org/freelegal.html

Well that does give you a legal reason to void your lease and move. If she did open your mail and you could prove it you could sue because it is illegal to open any mail that's not addressed to you. I from Ga. also and I believe if you found a good lawyer you could win in court with this and all the other "incidents" you stated that happened

Last I heard, it was a Federal offense to open anyone's mail without their permission.

Call the post office and ask them what the process is -- meanwhile, you better start looking for another place to live.

Well, who knows, maybe if you prosecute her, you can end up owning the place and she will be the tenant and you will be the landlord...hmmm...that could be fun -- just be sure to change the locks so you are the one in control!!!

Julie
Find out who the owner of your complex is and write and tell them what is going on. Also contact the post office because yes that is illegal.
File a complaint with your local state housing agency. Go online or look in the phonebook. You have a lot of issues going on here. Take care of them before you are held just as liable for not doing anything.

that was gay of her. sue her period
