hmmm.

i dont think you wont ever find a place at that price. imagine you have to think about your daily expenses too plus all the new york stress. believe me sweetie, i work at midtown 5th ave.. ive been wanting to live in manhattan for a long time now "if i have the money" but it looks like you dont wanna stretch your fortune. a studio in soho right now cost $1800 and up and that depends the size too. i live in queens and it the best place to be at... my train take me 15 mins only and no hassle. very peaceful... if you really insist, walk around soho to 65th (uptown is way cheaper) walk through apartments, speak people, friends, landlords on apt bldngs cause they know better... asked for rent-stabilized bldngs (rent that is fix) look at signs.. posters.. university bulletin, etc. let everybody know ur looking for a place.. (its a chain-reaction & word of mouth) but remember you have to shed extra money for deposit, security, utilities, etc or better find friends to join you or room mates. dont got to websites that requires money... some are just BS or if ever try goin to www.nytimes.com.. i know a lot of people who live in manhattan that wants to get out here now (some move to queens or long island) unless you're a party girl, so then... this is were u belong!!! fand oh, i heard if you are an immigrant.. goverment helps you with expenses and hook you up with nice apartments in town.

good luck sweetie.

are u kidding u can not get apartments anymore in manhatten for 1,500 a month.

being an ex-NYer I will try to give some advice.
there are NY papers that may list some apartments The daily news the post even the NY times...Most Apartments go through brokers rarely will you be able to go the landlord and work out a deal....those days are pretty much done...the rule of thumb applies very much in NY
"you get what you pay for"...1500.00...nowadays does not go far...Apartments are based on several things....convenience...a scenic view...the closer to midtown the more you may pay being closer to the "city"...the closer you are to the park..central park that is ...etc. etc.....I'm sure you know you need a monts rent a months security...don't be surprised they tell you 2 months security...application fees and you may get in for around 5000.00...1500.00x 3=4500...application fee 25-50 buxs...and if it has'nt been enough don't forget con edison att and any un-named utility...and possibly a maintenance fee...DON'T OWN A CAR..because you may pay equal amount for parking in a parking garage....happy hunting.........

PS. you might want to consider an outer borough...brooklyn queens or the bronx...1500.00 might get you a fair apartment in a fair neighborhood..:-)

My advice is to have a REALLY BIG bank account. under 1,500 is not going to get you anything.

Jason
i know a way you can get that stellar place you want, the web site is here : www.startstripping.now

Brainz
Babe, Soho is ritzy and it's in the midst of rebuilding. Me thinks you will need more than $1,500.

Automatic Slim
I would not be all that obsessed with living in Manhatten.

Besides, someone told me it's all happening at the Zoo.

I do believe it....

I do believe it's true.

You can take the crosstown bus if it's raining or it's cold, and the animals would love it if you do.

move to long island lol ud probably find a place in queens or more out east for about 1500 ...right now my family lives in a basement apartment for 1200 a month...and thats cheap..i have never seen anything that cheap for a minute.

My sister rented out a room at someones house for 600 a month..so you can find stuff like that..but u would probably have to look into local papers..like the yankeeclipper.com or the pennysaver , the carrier. try looking on those websites for rental information and see what u can come up with. It really is expensive to live in Manhattan and i think u can find a decent place to live in long island IMHO. :)

well: according in what you'd should do is to go over toward
an local News Paper & look for Rental ads listings first

Like you just said, Craigslist is really your best bet. If you go to realty companies they will charge you A TON (sometimes a month and a half rent) when they find you a place (That would be $2200 for you!). Judging by your name I would guess you want to be in a fun fashion area, So I would suggest either Chelsea or Tribecca, look in those areas and you can probably find a decent place for that range.

Just as an FYI, when you live in Manhattan you are paying manly for the convience of living in Manhattan, Don't be preparred to find a place like where Carrie lives in Sex and the City. In fact, throw that whole show out the window b/c Manhattan is nothing like that ;-)

Sweety, I have been living in Manhattan for the past 3 years and usually the only way to get an apartment for $1500.00 is if you have a roomate or two and the rent is split. Or your living in Harlem, UES,UWS (Above 100 streets) LES or The Village.

But through my extensive search, lol I have found a few but prob. not in the area you'd like.

Here's a studio in Gramercy for $1450.
http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/fee/282799851.html

Studio on 34th and 9th Avenue $1282
http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/fee/282852064.html

Studio on 26th and 3rd Avenue $1450
http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/fee/282815853.html

Another studio for $1500 on West 36th.
http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/fee/282440534.html

Good Luck .... if no luck there do a random search here .... http://newyork.craigslist.org/aap/

Have you thought of contacting a realtor & asking her about your needs for housing? It's worth a try & what have you got to lose?

get urself a man u hooker

Jersey girl on Florida.
YES...and the best advise is that you can look for apartments in Union City, West New York, Jersey City or North Bergen: all this towns are across the Hudson river in New Jersey where the rents are half of New York's' and it 's just 15 to 20 minutes away from The Big Apple. Good Luck!

be very careful with craigslist.
under 1500. per month..the most you can get in a decent neighborhood would be a very tiny studio...probably in a walk up brownstone building.
be very careful about what neighboood you choose.
one hint..wherever you choose...visit the neighborhood at night also....many times what a street looks like during the day......
will look very different without as many people on it..at night....
stay safe.

I am a Realtor and the best advice is to stay away from dot coms or apartment finders in general. What I would recommend is to use a reputable Brokerage. Typically, apartment searches and dot coms are not up to date and generally will find you the most expensive properties. Since you are the renter, it costs you nothing to use a brokerage, the owner pays any fees, so you don't have to worry about getting ripped off.

I am not in Manhattan, but if you need help finding a brokerage, I'd be glad to do a search and give you a few suggestions, and almost all well known brokerages have websites with property search links. Good luck!

Rent.com is amazing.

Many people have moved to either Brooklyn or Staten Island and traveled a few more minutes per day rather than live in Manhattan, due to the cost and congestion of living in Manhattan.

Call a few real estate agencies who deal with apartments in downtown Brooklyn. You may be pleasantly surprised with the results.

Jersey Style
I don't want to be mean but there is no way on Gods green earth you are going to find an apartment for less than 2 grand a month. I'd say try Jersey but our cheapest is about 1,800 a month and that's not even Hoboken. Your going to need a lot of roomates and at least 2 jobs.

gellybean42
For 1500 a month in Soho...I suggest you start looking for a roommate..

You want to live in Manhattan between SoHo and 65 street and pay $1,500....scratching my head.....good luck! Manhattan is some of the most expensive real estate in NYC. For that kind of money Idon't think you're going to find much or if you do it won't be in a great area (Alphabet City comes to mind). You might want to consider a roommate - Village Voice ads might help.

chuck h
look throughout the manhattan area for one that is affordable. Some prices are over 1.5 million. Real estate is high in the nyc area.

Good luck! $1500 will get you MAYBE a small studio!

In Manhatten you are going to pay around $2000/month, regardless. But if you must live there, you should get one near Central Park area and Lincoln Center Opera House. Really beautiful around there.

mitchum
youd better bang the landlord to get a deal like that.
