Im in a lease at my apartments but the crime is getting real bad. my car got broken into and one of my good friends got raped near where i stay. there has been a big rise in crime since i have lived there im only trying to get out a month early. what is the best way to go about this?? |

they really can't stop you from breaking the lease, but things will be a lot better if you can have someone lined up for the apartment after you leave, the sooner they have someone in there the less of a chance that they will keep your security deposit (some places at least), so if you do a little work to help them out they may be a lot more lenient on things, or you can just move out and forget about the deposit, they may charge you a bit for it |

For one month, pay rent at two places if you want your security deposit back. Or stay with family/friends outside of the neighborhood for the remaining time if you can't afford to pay double rent for a month. Bottom line, don't put yourself in danger. |

You can't put a price on your safety. Figure out how to afford both. Maybe get help from your church or a family member that cares about your safety. |

If the landlord does not desire to release you from your contract, there is little you can do. I advise staying until the termination of your lease, leaving the premises as close to spotless as you can, so that your chances of getting back all your security increase.
In the interim, either stay elsewhere with family/friends, or stay living there while doing your best to NOT make yourself a crime victim. Use common sense, and do not be roaming the streets there alone at odd hours. If you are cautious and watchful, your chances of becoming a crime victim drop considerably. |

Explain your concerns to the landlord, and offer to help them find a new tenant. |

Write a letter to your landlord and give 30-day notice. Be prepared to lose your deposit and possibly have to continue to pay rent until the unit is re-rented or until your original lease was set to expire. That's pretty much the only option. |

tell them you have been threatened and you are scared for your life, get copies of police reports and take them to landlord with move out notice, worse case you have to pay rent for the last month but they can't physically make you stay there |

Probably not much you can do for a month. You would need to give a month's notice anyway. The best thing to do it call you landlord and ask if you can cancel early. Maybe you can negotiate an early termination like forfeit your deposit or something. |

It all really depends on how big of a jerk your landlord is. Mine didn't let me break my lease til someone broke into my apartment and stole my things. |

you neigborhood seems really bad. your right and you do need to get out. the easyist way is just to have a nice chat with your landlord and tell them that the neighborhood is not a good place for you to live. then nicely and politey brind up the subject of leaving. don't yell. maybe be offer to pay half of the next months rent.
hope it helps! |
