I paid too much for rent?
My rent is 525 a month, but I just looked at my old bank statements and realized that in the last 4 months I have paid 535 and my manager didn't tell me. Should they have told me that I was paying too much? Will I be able to get the money back?

I doubt they paid attention. I would call AND write a letter explaining that you will be paying less this next month. If possible, I would have them sign something agreeing to that.

Contact your landlord and tell them the situation and ask if the extra money you paid (being $40 over the past 4 months) can be credited to your rent so next month you can just pay $485.

it should be credited to your account, you should now have a 40 dollar credit and "should" be able to deduct 40 dollars from your next rent payment.

say something....some landlords are slumlords and will try to milk you...if it's property management then they might of overlooked it....say something

There is a chance they didn't notice. If they deposit several checks at once, they just stamp the back with out looking. Point it out to who ever you give your check to and tell them you will be subtracting the difference of the over payment in your next check.

Expert Realtor
Bring it to your attention.

Your landlord probably won't give you a refund per se but will probably allow you to pay next month, $40 less.

Have you CALLED to ask ?

From ABOVE
ask for it back as long as you have proof or have 50 bucks off

tyra
mostly you'll get credited for your money.... 525 isn't that bad when i was paying 645 for 2brd apartment.

Confused
I once did that and they let it carry over...I would take in your statements and show them that you have paid too much and work out a deal with them. Good Luck!

Definitely call and ask. This sort of thing happens all the time, and unless your landlord/property manager is looking at your payment record for some other reason, they probably overlooked it. As a property manager, I run reports for people who haven't paid and contact them. If I notice an overpayment, or a consistent theme of overpayment, I do try to contact the tenant, but it isn't something I check for on a routine basis.

qman
They probably didn't even notice. Pay 515 next time.
