I pay rent to the lady upstairs from me who is suppost to be the landlord but i dont think she is. read below?
ok well i moved in 1 year ago and everything was going fine the "landlord" lives upstairs alone but heres the thing. We asked her if we could have a dog she was like i have to ask my boyfriend then we asked her if we could put some things downstairs in the basement because we dont have enough room, and if we could put a little sandbox in the back for my 2 year old to play and everything is I HAVE TO ASK MY BOYFRIEND!! Its really bothering me beacuse I dont know whos house im living in. Does anyone know how i can find out who really owns this house?
The landlord and owner of the house could be two different people. That is not uncommon. Maybe the boyfriend is the one who owns the house and just has here live there to collect the rent and over see the property. Just ask her first, and see what she says, if you still have doubts then follow the step people have said before.

Public Records darling.(free Information) I have found that if the owner is elderly are female they prefer for tenants not to know they have full control for safety and respect. Some times tenant aren't always easy to deal with. . After one year and no one has shown up as the owner she probably is the owner. Really such thing as pets should have been agreed upon at the time of renting. Any Real Estate person can assist you with determining the owner. Also she do not have to be the owner to collect the rent. Having permission from the owner is enough in itself. One year no problems about money? I would think so.

It might be her boyfriend, he might be the owner, but she might be the landlord. People run businesses different ways especially when they don't want the owner to be contacted. The landlord could be more cool about things than the owner. Don't sweat it!

Was there a lease? Usually, that will state at least the company that you are in a lease with. Also, check online. Lots of cities and counties have sites that let you type in an address and get the name of the owner.
Landlord
it is public record, you ask the county tax assessor.

Go down to your county seat and check the tax records.

Im thinking that if you have been living at a place for about a year and not a soul has knocked at your door... she collects the rent. If I was a landlord I would have shown up by now wondering why some strange ppl are in my building. The "boyfriend" thing doesnt seem right to me either. I would go ask her who "boyfriend" is. As far as finding out who owns the property.. it is public information. Google it. For example: I live in Allegheny County Pa. I would Google "Allegheny County Property Assesments" or "Allegheny County PA Properties". This will get a local government site with property info. But if this isnt sitting right with you, and you have a 2 yr old, I'd move when the lease runs up. Cant take chances with your precious loved ones.
