I rent and a tree fell on my truck who pays for it?

Your insurance.
It was an act of God, unless you can prove the property owner knew it would fall.
Then your insurance will deal with the property owner.
Your agent or caveman should have told you this.

Call your insurance agent. Unless your landlord chopped the tree down, it's not his problem. It's called "An act of God" if it was caused by a storm, or whatever. But if the tree was rotted, the landlord may have to pay for it.

acermill
Your auto/truck insurance will handle such damage. You can only collect through the property owner if negligence is shown on the part of the property owner. That means the property owner must have had knowledge that the tree was in danger of falling and did nothing to remove the tree.

Call your auto insurer.

The owner of the property on which the tree was located. It's also possible that your own vehicle insurance (the comprehensive portion) may cover it.

areawiderem
If the tree is on the rental owners property, they could be held liable. If on anothers land, they could be potentially liable. Good Luck!

The tree or the truck?

The landlord should have a homeowner's insurance policy that covers this sort of thing. Talk to them.

chatsplas
generally your renters insurance would pay or even your car insurance--comprehensive insurance coverage
or LL's liability insurance

Talk to your LL
