emd2u | I sued a tenant and won a judgment. I need to garnish their wages at work, how do I find out where they work? |
I own several properties that I rent out. I evicted a tenant and I won a judgment for delinquent rent and property damage, about $3500. I filed a "garnishment of wages" at the courthouse to have a portion of their paycheck garnished each week to pay off the judgment. After about 2 weeks, they quit their job, and I only collected $89. My question: How can I find out their new place of employment so I can issue another garnishment? Also, I do not know where they live now. I tried to call the utility companies, and they would not tell me. |

You go back to the court that awarded you the judgement and tell him about what is going on and he will contact the proper authorities to find them and they will either charge them with fraud, which is a criminal charge with fines and jailtime perhaps . or they will simply start the garnishment of their wages at the new employer. If they ar drawing unemployment or any kind of social services moneys, that can be garnished as well.
They can't hide anywhere in the US if they work and use their social secuirty number .
the courts can also freeze their accounts and make them sell their personal belongings to pay you if they mess around a lot and piss off the judge. |

That's the state's job. In most states, the state makes the notification of the garnishment to the new employer when the employer files the new employee paperwork. Unless you filed a federal court case for $3,500. Also, I'm not sure you can file a second garnishment. The current one should be permanent until the amount is paid in full. |

Where do you live? I am a part owner of a judgement recovery service that specializes in that sort of thing. We use skip-tracing techniques to track down the debtor. You may want to look up a company such as mine to help you out. |

On the internet you can pay $39.00 one time fee and look up people's social security number , if you know it , and find out where he lives, works, banks . Search the web sites. |

I would just pay the small fee they have online for people search. |

Garnishment of wages is only one in a "bag of tricks" you can use to satisfy a judgment. Depending on your state's laws, you can also garnish bank accounts and seize property. Now that you have a judgment, the law is on your side. You have the right to know where your debtor lives, where he works, and what he owns that can satisfy the judgment.
Our company offers some good information for judgment creditors in the FAQ of our website:

Please let us know if we can assist you. |

Does he has a cell phone?
If so. Is it a Disposable Cell phone or a Plan Cell Phone?
If it is a Plan Cell Phone he cannot just toss it and you can buy his phone records.
If you don't know his phone number you can donate $100.00 to someone working at a cell phone company and find out his number.
I am sure a Detective can find him for $500.00 |
