complicatedtallblond... | I think my apt may have mold, but none is visible. Do I test or ask the landlord to? |
I have had a reoccurring rash for about 2 months now. I have been to dr after dr and they can't figure out what is wrong. I'm feeling tired a lot and having headaches.I have taken three different prescriptions for steroids and they always work, but after a day or two when the pack is gone.. the rash is back. I'm running out of options of what could be wrong. Can I test for mold if there is no apparent mold in sight? Do I call my landlord and ask them to? How much would it be for me to test at home? |

I would tell the landlord your concern and also let him know you are going to a doctor to get tested for exposure to mold. Most likely, he will have the place tested. If he doesn't, look through your rental agreement to see if there is anything about mold testing. Research to see what it would cost you and maybe get it tested, you can test at any time you'd like. If it's positive stick the landlord with the bill and have him get that place cleaned.
Good luck and stay healthy. |

Have the landlord do the test as they can be pretty pricey. You should have a clause in your rental agreement that the landlord takes care of that type of stuff. |

You can ask the landlord but as far as I know its not his legal obligation. It never hurts to ask. Maybe even offer paying half.

If you suspect mold, but it's not visable then you have to bear the costs. If the results indicate mold, then it's a health issue which your landlord must take care of.

Probably a good idea to go through the chain of command, as they say, and notify your landlord. Don't know about costs as different cities, states have different laws. Do know if any damage done due to testing, you may be liable if you do it yourself.
P.S. Your employer should kick your butt for pissing away his time! |

Everyhome has mold. You should be able to go down to your local hardware store (home depot, lowes, etc) and buy a home test kit. If not they are available online. You just have to watch out for the toxic stuff.

I would also notifiy your landlord that you suspect your home has mold in it. Do this in writting...A professional mold inspection should cost about $300.00
good luck |

I dont know how much it would be to test the mold yourself but im guessing that its expensive. You should ask your landlord to do it. It might be the air filter too so ask him if he has changed the air filter lately. |

It doesn't hurt to ask the landlord. The worst they could do is say no.. then you can get it tested yourself. Not sure of the cost though.
Good luck. |

ask the landlord, always ask the landlord. it's a part of your renter's rights.
I've had a similar instance about faulty wiring in the sockets.. and I had some people come in and fix it, i kept the receipt so i could be reimbursed, THIS IS A MISTAKE!!!!!!!!
I let the landlord know after I did the fixing and what not.
best way to take care of this:
contact your landlord and request tests to be done for mold, and request that it be cleaned if it is infact the black mold. because let me tell you, trying to get reimbursed for something is a pain! |
