I usually do not discuss my salary with my friends. I am renting out a high end property ( over $6,000/mo )?
What do I tell my friends when they ask how much money I got for the property? I don't want to seem rude , but I don't want them to know my income.

I would just laugh it off, "not as much as the bank!"

I am surprised your friends are that rude. Mine just look it up in the tax records, LOL!!

Steveo
You can ask them what their take home pay is, and explain that this is something that you don't discuss, even with your parents.

Just tell them something more reasonable sounding, whatever you are comfertable with. They will never know the differance! That is awesome you are renting out for that much! WOW! I could live off that!

gabby
don't tell---change the subject--or tell them it makes you uncomfortable talking about money

I hate it when people try to figure out how much you make. Everything changes when they know you make some dough.

Tell them your work is paying for half of it. Or you took over someone else's lease at half the price, they just needed to get out. Something that makes it sound like you found the deal of a life time. Then tell them you can barely afford to pay the other half of the rent. Maybe they will bring some beer over and buy you food!!!

Just say, "I did fine". If they press you, just say it wasn't as much as you'd hoped for, and try to leave it at that. People will instantly assume you are in dire straights, and will immediately begin buying you drinks.

People are far more willing to believe something negative than they are something positive.

Reverse psych works!

If they are looking to rent the property or at least pretending they might have a friend that wants to rent the property them you may need to tell them.

If you put it with a property management company then your friends may think you sold it. I would just tell them you prefer not to discuss money and that is why you have a management company.

I usually make a joke of it and say something like "more than I'm worth, but less than I'd like"

Most people, (not all) will take the hint that you don't want to give a straight answer.

I'd answer with a non-answer, such as "Not as much as I would've liked" or "it's a complicated deal" and change the subject. If they persist, ask them why they want to know. When they answer, change the subject again.

Friends will get the hint.

dansmith1234
Tell them "I am getting enough" If they persist, tell them you don't discuss money. Personally, I think it is rude of them to ask!!

Credic J
Just lie and tell them it's a lower number that you're comfortable with.
