I want to move to the South, from Pennsylvania?
I've posted a simular question here before and received mixed and vague answers. I live in North Central, Pennsylvania and want to move to an economic hotspot in the South to better my family's life. I wanted to raise my children in my hometown, but financial hardships have made my decision to move a necessity. One reason I want to move further south is to avoid winter heating costs. I lived outside of Camp Lejeune, NC when I was stationed there. I liked the area but have no desire to move my family to a military town. I need help to find a location so I can research job and home opportunities online. I'm a blue-collar worker and would like you to consider this when posting answers, as I do not want to live as an outsider in someones posh neighborhood. I would also like to see answers about rural area with commutes to towns/cities with bustling growth. Please answer with truthfulness and sincerity, My Family's life depends on it.

I suggest you look at the Eastern Shore of MD, DE, or VA. Living on the Eastern Shore of Maryland is pretty nice, and there are lots of people that commute to Annapolis,or Baltimore for work. The cost of living is ok, the people are ok, and there are lots of great neighborhoods, or even country roads if you are interested in peaceful, yet close to town. The schools are nice, there are lots of activities for children. There is alot to offer you should consider taking a road trip to check it out. If you are in PA, then you are only about 4 hours from here.

Why don't you just move to south PA? Toward Philly. Or Maryland/Del is also nice w/ low taxes. I honestly wouldn't move ANYWHERE south of DC- the south to me is not only culturally devoid, but the too hot, humid, and redneck. Not to mention the bible belting going on. If you haven't spent any real time in the places you are considering uprooting your family too, perhaps you shouldn't take that large of a chance/financial expenditure.

Check out Jackson, MS (Ridgeland, MS is a little town just north of it) Not yuppity, lots of job opportunities (they have major car factories there and believe a new one is moving in). I just went through there on vacation and thought it was beautiful) Problem is, to move south it is very hard to avoid military areas because they are all over. I would take a map and look at all the little towns outside of the major cities so that you can have the semi-rural setting but yet not be restricted on your employment opportunities. Good luck and God Bless.

Live in the coal region myself and agree would like to leave, Did in 2000 to Texas what a mistake lost everything, last question in an interview was I noticed your accent where are you from? Soured taste on the south for my family me think it is just Texas. Hey all work for a large chemical company up here have a BS in business administration anyone in our southern states looking to hire?

I threw a dart at a map and came up with Asheville, North Carolina

whatever costs you think you are saving by not paying so much in heating bills in the north, will be more than made up in your high air/conditioning costs living in the south.

Come on down to the sunshine state!! I grew up in Harrisburg and now live in Jacksonville. It is a wonderful place!!

The climate is great because it is really more like South GA than Florida.. not at all like Miami etc..

Our economy is one of the best in the state.. seriously! I am a Realtor here and would be happy to send you some relocation information if you are intrested!

You say that you are a blue collar worker. Most people do not care to move constantly, how ever, depending on your craft and willingness to travel ( and probably find a town / city where you would like to live) go to www.roadtechs.com and view the amount of companies looking for " contractors" to work, and many offering permanent positions. Good Luck.
