I want to stay fairly close to staten Island because my whole family lives there. I want good schools for my three young kids. I don't mind spending some money I would say no more then 700,000. Can any NJ residents help me out.

sure thing. I have friends on the island and I can tell you one thing. If you live there send your kids to Catholic schools. In NJ, its odd cause right by SI is the part with the worst nj schools. Central jersey is a good place to look because its more suburban and it takes away from that city atmosphere a little. Somerset and Hunterdon counties have great places to live. a good sized house goes for like the mid 500's, the schools are good except like SI the real estate is expensive. There are also select catholic schools around as well that are well known, too. Central Jersey is a 40 minute drive from Staten and when you arrive it doesnt even seem like the city would be that close, but in reality it is. Some town names are Flemington, White House, Bernards, Montgomery, Hillsborough, North Hunterdon...etc
Look on real estate websites that cater to these areas and get some ideas. The good schools are Hunterdon Central, Montgomery, Watchung Hills, Bridgewater, Immaculata (Catholic), and Hillsborough. The further you travel towards Princeton the higher the real estate and the schools become exclusively private with tuition ranging from a mind boggling 20,000 a year.....(with three kids, you obviously need something more economical).

Most of the Northern NJ cities will be close to there.....
Hoboken and Jersey City may be the best for transportation to s.i.
Hard to tell you without knowing what you are looking for specifically BUT Check out the towns in Bergen County (North Arlington, Lyndhurst, Rutherford, Kearny). BTW: I live in Lyndhurst.
There is also Cranford, Parsippany & Paramus to pick from. |

Randolph, Hawthorne, Wayne, Montville, Sparta.
All have great school systems and are nice communities with lots of job opportunities near by they also all boarder major highways. There are buses/trains close by and the furthest one is 20 mins from NYC. |

Just walk over the bridge and come to Bayonne. Schools are great though they did just inforce a uniform policy which many parents are not happy about. There are some lovely homes on the west side, close to the bay. |

I think that the reason that NJ doesn't allow people to pump there own gas is becuase Jerseyites refuse to put down their cigarettes.
I believe that Metuchen and Short Hills are very nice. Avoid Camden and Jersey City. Paramus is nicer than it sounds |

I used to live in Newark , NJ so don't go there too much crime and traffic. The best place in New Jersey is Edison,Trenton,New Brunswick. Don't go to Elizabeth it is simular to NJ. It's close to Staten Island but not a good community unless to go to the burbs and stay in the burbs. |

Try contacting a local real estate agent. They will know everything there is to know about the best options for you. A really good website to browse local real estate/real estate agents is: http://www.realestateforsaleinnewjersey.com
It's really easy to navigate and is full of info about realtors with links to their personal websites. Most of their websites will have all the available homes/rentals in the area along with community info, so you can do some research before you contact anyone. Hopefully that works for you. i live in bergen county in nj!:D fort lee is right next to gwbridge, but if you want a good school......i'd say tenafly, demarest, or old tappan... these towns have great public schools. but the houses are fairly expensive thou. |
