well it depends on were u live. I live in memphis, tn I pay 561 for 1 bedroom apartment. about 80$ in summer for untility bill includes electric and gas. Water is about 11 bucks a month. Renters insurance is nice to have at 15$ a month. Groceries is about 150$. Cable 60$ internet40$ home phone no need just use ur cell at about 50$. so that's close to one grand a month. try getting a roomate usually cheaper. Also if u are young enough or haven't finished college i suggest u go to college and live on campus in single room eveything is free paid with tution and if u don't got the money get a student loan only have to take like 2 classes a semester to stay for about 1yr and a half until u find better job. |

Your rent cost will largely depend on where you live. In my area, a cheap 1-bedroom runs about $800 per month. Gas = Electric is about 40. Phone is about $75 if you also have broadband with it. Where I live, we don't pay for garbage or water when we rent. But don't forget food, which for me was about $200 per month. Cell phone, $50. Add your car payment, insurance, and any credit card debt, and you've got your monthly costs. |

All amounts are approximate:
Water: $25/mo
Electric: $75/mo
Gas: (I don't have anything run by gas, but it's not cheap right now)
Rent: Depends on location
Phone: Go without landline to save money
Trash: Varies
Lawn/Maintenance fees: Varies by landlord
Cable/Internet: depends on provider and package
Food: not cheap!
All totaled, the last apartment I stayed at, my total expenses were around $1200/mo, but then my rent was higher without a roommate, and I use a lot of electricity! |

if you are gonna rent an apartment, it wil be expensive. you might look at renting a room from somebody, that will cut down lots of bills. when living on your own, consider these cost: food, cable tv, electricity, gas, water, laundry, .... want more? someone will add on to this list...... |

Expect to have almost as much as your rent for other bills.
Some apartments include some of the utilities. The cost depends on your area.
But, for a single person, if your rent is $600, water will likely be under $50 (if you have to pay it at all), phone $25-50 land line, cell phone $35, electric $50-60 (if you have to pay it and don't have electric heat if you do have electric heat than god help you), gas $30-200 (if you have to pay for your heat).
Don't forget insurance (car insurance is very expensive). And, renters is a good idea. Internet ($10-50 per month depending if you have broadband), Cable ($50-75 per month)
Food varies ($50-100 per week and you can eat well but you could get by on very minimal purchases). I would recommend you buy only what you will eat that week for awhile. Because when you get started you have to buy spices and ingredients everytime you cook something new. Not to mention all the utensils, etc.
Thrift shops have lots of things you can use as well as garage sales. Garage sales are great since you can get an idea about the people selling the stuff.
You will also need first and last months rent in advance in most cases. Good luck. |

I would be happy to help you but it varies from state to state, city to city.
So if I were to give you my information, it may not do you any good.
When you find a place that you are interested in, if going out on your own instead of rooming with someone, ask the landlord for a copy of the utility bills, or what they average. Always figure high.
Call the phone company, rubbish company, cable company and ask them what their prices are for that area.
Always remember to add food, clothing, entertainment, necessities, gas, etc.
It isn't cheap and takes some discipline but good luck.
p.s. Don't be afraid to shop the Goodwill stores or thrift marts, they carry stuff such as furniture, clothing, utensils, that you will need to get started. They have new stuff brought in all the time and will save you lots of money.
My first place was all rummage sale finds and there isn't anybody that knew it but me! |

It depends on the place you get. Some apartments have "all utilities included", this means heat, water and electric cable, phone and internet are not inculded unless otherwise specified. Getting one of these if you can is the best way to go then the landlord soaks up the cost of your utilities making it cheaper for you. Another option is "heat and water" included, then you have to pay electric, phone, internet and cable. This is also a good way to go if you can't get an all utilities included place. The last is no utilities included which means you pay for EVERYTHING. This really isn't the way to go in my opinion, it can end up costing you way more.
That being said, it really all depends on how you use your utilities on how much it will cost. The bills you normally have to pay, worst case scenario (without any utilities included in the rent is as follows and remember, this depends on your area)
Rent: 500-700 a month for a one bedroom in my area
Electric: I always budget $100 max for electric a month, just to be save
Heat: The last place I had was heat included, so I have NO idea how much this will cost
Water: again, the last place I had was water included too
Phone: (optional if you have a cell): Most local plans are about 30 most long distance plans can be anywhere from 50- 70 a month
Net: That all depends on what kind of net you get. 12-20 a month for dial up, 20-100 for cable
Cable: that depends, again, on what kind of cable you get 30 for extended basic up to over 100 for digital and all that crap.
Food: for one person eating reasonably well, I'd say about $100 a month is sufficient for food.
And don't forget, most landlords ask for first month's rent and security deposit which is the same as the cost of the monthly rent. And some will ask for last month's rent as well. So that means you need to have (based on a 500 a month place) 1000-1500 ready before you can call the apartment yours!
Good Luck, I hope I was helpful! |
