Wednesday | If I apply for a mortgage with my partner, will the bank tell him the details of my credit report? |
It might not be a good report, although I am taking care of my finances now. Will the bank tell him how much I owe, etc.? |

Sorry Morticia, but yes they will. They may not give him all the gory details, but it may be enough to reduce your borrowing capability and if you get turned down, then that's another slur on your credit rating.
Come clean quick, to save any bad moments at the bank.
Gulp! I don't envy you....... Or you'll have to dump him to avoid coughing up the truth. It will certainly test your relationship. Start flogging all your stuff on eBay and try and recover all your bank charges.
Might also be worth seeing Citizen's advice too.
Good luck. :( |

It's best if you tell him yourself, you don't want your relationship to fail over something as futile yet weighty as money. Think about how you would feel if the bank told you that his wasn't all that. Wouldn't you have rather heard that from him? Don't end up losing house and spouse that way! |

Let's put it this way, if you ain't honest with your partner, you ain't a good partner! & if he can't accept it he ain't no good neither! |

if they turn you down because of your credit rating they'll say it was because of the credit reports, and assuming his is OK he'll work out pretty fast that yours is bad. I don't think they'll actually show him the finer details of the report.
You say it might not be a good report - sounds like you're not sure - get hold of a copy first off (it's only £2) and see exactly what it says about you, then see if you can do anything to sort out the bad stuff. |

Should the question not be whether you're relationship is at a point where buying a property together is a good idea, if you have not been able to talk honestly about this sort of thing already? |

No that information is confidential. However they can say that there was a problem when they ran a credit check (not that there will be). |

I'm buying a house right now. All of the money each of us owe to everyone is written plainly on the purchase contract. They also may ask further details about certain accounts, so if you husband is the one on the phone he will know everything. |

if you are going to buy a house with you partner it would be good for you to be upfront with him or her, cause if you have taht bad of credit it will not make your chances that good on getting the house and yes i do think that the bank will have to let your partner know it is going to be a joint venture and he or she will have that right to know ,, |

They shouldn't because of the data protection act, although they can decline it. If you have a relationship at a stage that you are thinking of buying together, then it should also be at the stage where you are honest with each other. Your bank may not be the best place to get a mortgage anyway and there are plenty of lenders that can help people with a varied credit history, not always at a high cost either. If you're in the UK, let me know if you need any further help. |

If you have not got good credit you will more than likely be refused, even if your partner has good credit. When you apply for credit together you credit a financial link between yourselves and this may affect his credit rating.
When you are refused, the bank does not tell you why or any details, they just recommend that you obtain a copy of your credit report. So if this happens your partner may want to take this course of action to see why you have been refused, this way he will see your whole credit history. |

They should not be that specific with him, but you should talk to your lender about how much you want to disclose to him beforehand. |
