Yes, but the landlord may require a co-signer or larger deposit.

Just have her rent it in her name only. Then your credit is not a problem. Don't make her mad or she could kick you out..

If you are applying for USDA housing or through a city program everyone in the household has to be on the application therefore all credit is ran. That happened to us, so be careful.

Actually, it would depend on the landlord.

Many landlords require that all people over the age of 18 fill out and application and qualify for the rental. These landlords require that all adults be listed on the lease as tenants. These landlords would deny renting to both of you due to your negative credit and/or rental history.

Other landlords may allow the lease to be in only her name and have you listed as an occupant.

You will just have to find out what each landlord's policy is when you go to showings.

If I have a couple that wants to apply to rent one of my apartments, and one has good credit and one doesn't, I only run the credit application with the good credit. I put the lease in the one's name with good credit, and I do a room mate agreement addendum with the other tenant. I make sure they understand that if rent is not paid, I sue the one with good credit on the main lease. I also make sure they know that the full rent payment is due, not 1/2 from one tenant and 1/2 from the other. I have a lot of tenants like that, and it works out fine, some are long term.

She should apply in her name only.

Have the apartmen lease be put in her name.. that way the credit check and personal refrences will be checked under that name and not yours.

MissTSU
Yes you can both apply but make sure she applies as the "Lease holder" and you apply as just an "Occupant". As a occupant they will run your criminal not your credit. Lease holders are approved by both criminal and credit. You don't want to be left off the lease because you don't want to be discovered living there and classified as an illegal occupant. So even if you are just a occupant you protect your right to live there.
