DvsJ | If I put my name on a lease agreement with someone else, is our credit linked? |
I need to get a roommate cause i can't afford rent. When they put their name on the lease, will their credit history be linked to mine? |

Their credit is checked, but does not effect your credit in any way. |

If you add a roommate to your lease as a lease holder, they are equally responsible for paying the rent, which means that if you don't pay, they could be held liable. same the other way around. But if you ad them as an occupant, then they are not a lease holder, they are your occupant. you can make them leave when you want them too, and they have to obide by the same rules. the problem with the occupant thing is, if they don't pay rent, you do not have a leg to stand on. they will not be held liable. your credit is check as an individual. your credit is your credit |

Your credit should be considered separately from the roommate when putting your name on the lease. I.E. Both scores will be taken individually and they will either average the credit together or look at pros and cons from each of you whether you will be approved.
Your credit will not be linked though unless you have another roommate and you both get evicted for non-payment. Then it would show up on both of your credit scores for have a collections account from an apartment community. |

Only as to how it pertains to that lease. If they stopped paying their share of the rent, you would have to pay. The contract says you are both promising all of the rent will be paid -- not half of it. If they trashed the place and didn't want to pay the move out charges, you would also be left with the bill. |

No, but if you both should not pay the rent and legal proceedings develop, that's were your credit history's made be linked. |

NO, you could gain some good rental history that way. But if you both fail-or he/she becomes a dud and doesn't pay rent-then you both are screwed. I haven't seen many good roommate situations in the 10 years I've worked in the housing industry. COnsider a property that has a studio apartment. |
