cherylrpa | If I sign a lease in the middle of jan, do I have to pay on feb 1? |
Ok so to explain more....
If I sign a lease in the middle of January and we pay the deposit and pay for the time we are living there in January, do you think I will have to pay for February on the first of the month or will it be March 1?? |

It depends on how the lease is written or the landlord prefers to do business.
For instance, if I have someone moving in during the month, I pro-rate the first months rent til the end of the month then the 1st of next month the full months rent is due. In your example, if you moved in Jan 15, you would pay for 1/2 a month (from Jan 15-Jan 31) and then on Feb 1 a full months rent would be due |

Your lease should state the due date for rent, and also the monthly amount. Rent is usually due on the first of each month. If what you have paid for January does not cover February too, then yes you will probably owe February rent on February first. |

Unless you paid Februarys rent in the middle of January, then yes, you will owe for February on the 1st. |

You pay on the same date the following month. If you signed the lease on 13 January and pay one full months rent, then your direct debit becomes due for the next months rent on 13 February and so on. |

Usually your deposit is first and last months rent. I would ask your landlord and make sure when they want the first payment because late fees can be a real nightmare. I use to live in a rental and the landlord was very shady and tried to make me pay late fees. It is best to always pay your rent on the first if that is what it says on your lease. If you were there in the middle of the month they might just say pay it on March 1st but make sure with the landlord. My guess would be that you have to pay the rent February 1st because that probably wasn't covered in your deposit. |

Feb 1, unless you are paying a month and a half up front. the deposit doesn't cover Feb, it's there in case something happens to the house once while you live there that has to be fixed once you are gone. |

If your initial payment was only deposit and the prorated days you are living in January, odds are, you will owe the months rent on Feb. 1st. When it comes to rent you are usually paying for the month in advance, not the other way around. Sometimes, the initial payment includes the prorated days plus 1st months rent. Depending on what you paid will dictate whether you pay on Feb. 1st or March 1st. |

If January was prorated, then yes you have to pay on February 1st. If it was a full months rent then you pay in the middle of Feb |
