If I take home 9500 a month- is 3900 too much to spend on mortgage, taxes, insurance?

Probably not. It depends on your big picture and how much other debt you have and your living expenses, etc. $3900 is 41% of your take home pay and typically budgets, etc are based on your gross pay. So, if you were to do that, then I'm guessing that $3900 is closer to 30% of your gross monthly pay and that's more in line with where you should be in order to not over burden your budget. Depending on your investment and savings goals, you might want that % to go down a bit.

Real Estate Guy
2900 would be better. This works out to a 400000 mortgage.

Don't be house poor

Only if you cant live on 5600 a month.

Yes , and how did you come to make $150,000+ per year
and NOT know this answer ?

Your other costs of living will also be higher for exmple the utility bills will be about 4 X the average home .

I think it would be wise not to buy at the top end of what you get approved for. why not buy a cheaper home and not have to pay almost 4000 month for just your house. why not limit it to 2500-3000 and pocket the extra 1000. Dont get over your head. The upkeep with a house that expensive and all your other bills should be a factor. Make a household budget and see where you stand if you have barely any money left over then I would say your spending too much.

Mia
It depends on how much you spend on food and how much you spend on electricity and water and all your other bills each month.

you'll still have more left over after your mortgage than I take home in 2 months, if you can't live on that then no amount of money will be enough.
