If a person owns a piece of land, do they own it all the way down to the center of the earth?

grey sun
yeah sure they do so why don't you dig right in and stake a stake in ....

Ghost of Zeuz
Normally, yes, unless they've sold the mineral rights to others. Also, in addition to owning the land down to the center of the earth, the landowner owns the airspace to the stratosphere.

And the sky above

you do own the land but depending on the law of the land at your place(haha),you do not own any minerals,or oil found in it

This depends. Some people do- some people don't. Laws are different and ownership is different depending on where you live and how your title has been treated in the past.

Meghanna
That would explain why the houses are so expensive...
"Yes, I would love to own that house, chunk of land, magma, and core"

You don't own anything,we just rent stuff while we are alive. When you die you can't take any of it with you,but you can be buried with one hand above ground so you can try to hang on to it!

Banana
Actually no & I'm surprised that a couple of people said yes. I work with legal property descriptions daily & it usually describes the property and then says something like "with a minimum of 500 feet depth" or "except for all minerals, water, oil, etc.". No you don't own the earth to the center of it.

Brainz
Yes if you can dig that deep!!!.
