If you can find such an apartment in the Atlanta area, you are doing real well!
Now, to answer your question:
If you get a roommate, you will split the cost. You pay $250 and the roomie pays $250 for the rent and then other bills such as utilities (electric, water and sewage) you pay half and the roomie pays half. If you decide to get a house phone then you each pay half of the basic line fee and you pay your own long distance fees. Food can be purchased separately or together, buy the basic food stuffs (meat, vegetables and stuff like rice or potatoes) and each pay half but pay for your own separate snack items. If you are the original person on the lease, you might want to have the new roomie sign an agreement with you that is called a sub-let. If you go to the local legal aid clinic, they can help you get the right forms to make it all legal. Good luck! |

It depends on your laws. Here, in California, you have to have permission to sublet - that means allowing someone to live there who is not on your original lease. If they move in with you and *are* on your original lease, they pay half of the 500 and you pay the other half. If you are allowed to sublet, the landlord may have the right to increase your rent, where you will pay the original 500 and they may pay the same amount (but not greater than the original amount). Call a local real estate agent who handles rentals in your area. Good luck. |

you can find a apartment in Atlanta for 500.00? To cover your bootie I would find an apartment YOU can afford alone. then look for a roommate, charge a flat rate to cover yourself if that person ever bails, destroys crap later...stuff like that, and split utilities. But put that extra cash aside for a bad situation day to fall back on.
NOW, if you and a friend go in mutually, both names on lease, then you split the place down the middle. |
